I'm lost, can't find first location, don't get radar

I got the first location (I'm assuming the radio tower?). Put it into the radar and ever since then I have been lost at sea. I have no idea when I look out at the ocean which way is north, south, east, or west. My radar has the location on the east. Well, I point my sail to what I think is east and the location gets further away (the numbers go up). I swing my sail in every possible direction and keep checking the radar and the numbers only keep going up. I don't know what to do. No matter where I point my sail the numbers on the radar never decrease. If they do it's very little and then suddenly they go right back up again.

I was honestly having fun up until I had to start doing the radar part. Now I'm stuck in a vast sea of ocean with barely any drifting supplies and rarely any small islands. I'm just freakin' lost.

place the RADAR while FACING EAST.
that way your directions will align.
if you are using the SAIL to get to Balboa... you win never succeed.
Place a STREAMER to know which way the wind is going.

I don't know which way is actually east though. There's no compass. There's nothing but ocean in every direction. There's no islands, nothing.

I don't know where I'm going. I just started with the radar. The number I got was 4335.

your raft ALWAYS drifts in that direction.
place it facing the FRONT of your raft.

Well unless the coordinates are random; the coordinate I have is 4335. Honestly, I'm not even sure the radio station is where I'm going. I have no idea where I'm going because I can't get there. And it's not lack of searching. I looked but that topic told me nothing. I don't understand how to use the radar. Maybe if you read my post; you'd understand that.

Okay, so I did that. I see where the sun is. My radar now says its on the west and even though I'm pointing the sail to the west. The numbers are still going up. Ugh. It's 2am. I'm giving up and going to bed.

If your sail is pointing to correct direction and the distance is still increasing (and you've tried all other directions to same effect), you've probably gone past the location. Your sail can't move your raft against the wind and you need either paddles or engines to do so. If that's the case, you can simply let your raft drift with the wind for a while until the story location despawns and game spawns a new one, hopefully in direction you can sail to.

I decided to take Anonymous Helpers advice and just keep doing what I've been doing. Sailing with no destination (no radar). Eventually I ended up finding the island with the plane wreck. After that it seemed the wind was on my side (so to speak) and when I took a look at the radar the numbers were getting smaller and smaller. I eventually got to what looks to be the radio station. I haven't explored it yet. Thought I'd take a moment and thank Anonymous Helper and Sigh-Phi-Guy for trying to guide me. Thank you! Hopefully I won't have any more trouble.

if you have a sail and looking at the radar that will be north on the radar if you have a steering wheel the wheel will point north on the radar
