What Pattern Does The Shark Have For Attacking Your Raft?
I was just wondering how the shark decides what to attack like i am doing quite well in the game i have engines, better grills, better purifiers and livestock, but i notice that my raft is always attacked in two general areas: 1. is the engines, and 2. is the rear of the raft on the corners where my research table and advanced purifier. My guess as to how the shark decides what to eat is that all items that can be placed like engines and grills have a hidden value and so it takes the top down view of the first floor of your raft and views where the items are placed and what defends them from attacks, and so it compare little "attack areas" and their values and attacks what is easiest or most valuable, and then attacks them. It would be nice to know so if anyone knows how the shark decides what to attack that would be great.

As far as I'm aware, it's simply whatever is closest whenever the timer is up. This will often be towards the rear of your craft from the direction you are traveling simply because your movement makes it more likely for the shark to be behind you. And corners are more likely simply because there are two directions to attack from. It doesn't seem to attack based on whats on the floor, I had gear on exterior floors and it still would tend to munch on a empty back corner again and again. As well, once you armor the entire perimeter of your raft it can no longer attack, even if you have small holes inside, such as for an anchor or paint barrel (1 block) or even your engine (3 blocks). I don't know if it simply can't attack interior openings or if they have to be a certain minimum size to attack. The entire floor needs not be armored anymore.

ok that makes more sense but the shark can attack interior foundations even if you have no holes so you have to armour the entire bottom not just the perimeter of your foundation

No. That's long ago patched out, it was in patch notes.. I've also been running around for 30+ hours on my current save with just the outside edges armored, nothing else, including no armor around the internal holes for my anchor, paint barrel, and engine. No attacks after armoring just the outside edge. The shark can only attack the edges.

ok one more question are you sure i needed to armor only the outside rim of the foundations?
i went through all the patch notes and none of them said that

It's literally been 20-30 hours of play this session (and 10-15 hours last game) since I armored only the edges of my raft and nothing else, including not armoring the interior holes for my paint mixer, anchor, and engine. I saw conflicting information in the forums about it, and figured it was very easy to test, and a lot less work to armor after an attack then armor everything needlessly. So, yes, I can safely say the shark does not attack interior and you just need to armor your edges.
The only thing I haven't tested is intentionally making a giant hole in the center to see if he can attack if the hole is large enough.
I've literally done this all in the last two weeks so it's definitely up to date information. (I'm disabled and mostly confined to bed so I have a lot of freaking time to kill.)
