Sprinkler pb & Animals keep dying ...
Hi guys. I dunno why, but since the update :

1) I can't put the water sprinkler on grass
2) My animals keep dying, even with grass around them. It's like they don't notice it and try to go forwards again and again. Each time I come back from an island, I find at least one of my animals dead... I lost three today... please help me

I'm still a bit a noob in this regard. I placed down a sprinkler the other day, it didn't seem like you could place it on grass. Unless I'm mistaken.

As for your animals dying, it's a bit vague. Maybe you don't have enough grass plots to feed them all?

Before the update, I could put sprinkler on grass. And I have 8 grass square for each animal, I suppose it's enough. They just stay in front of the fence, walking forwards, neck down, before dying

Ah dang, guess I'll wait to rework my raft now, that stinks. - We were 100% able to put sprinklers on grass (my current one is on a plot now), so I imagine an update will be coming to fix this, hopefully soon!

But now I'm super worried about my animals and not sure I want to keep playing and exploring until this is fixed... if I lose my rare animals, again, I think I'd uninstall the game for a while out of anger, lol.

Feeling kind of the same. I maybe found why they died. I had two pens separated by a way (one square wide). Maybe my animals wanted to eat grass in the other pen, and because they couldn't, they died. I dunno. I did one very big pen and hope everything to be better

When sprinklers were introduced, they were definitely placeable on grass plots. That is no longer the case but since there was no mention of it in the patch notes, it's hard to tell if it's a bug, or they never intended them to be placed on grass and have now fixed THAT bug. :)

That being said, I haven't had any issues with my animals dying since the patch. Only issue I had was my clucker got out of his pen and was walking off the raft without moving. He was walking on the edge of the raft, but wasn't actually moving so I picked him up and put him back in his pen.

I don't know if your pen is on the lowest level (just above the water). When is it the case, with seawaves coming, sometimes animals go over the fences. Now all my pens are on first floor xD

An animal tends to target a plot of grass outside of its reach, causing it to starve. In order to prevent this from happening:

1. Gather all animals inside of a single pen surrounded with fence;
2. Elevate sprinklers above the pen or move them one tile outside of the pen.

Basically - remove any possible obstruction for an animal to access ANY plot of grass on your raft.

My animals were disappearing when I had 3 separate pens for each animal type. They were trying to get from one pen to another to feed (despite still having grass in their own pen), walking into the fence between pens. But since I gathered them all together and elevated sprinklers above the grass none of them have died or ever been stuck in hungry state/animation.

Do you know if we can have separate pens on different floors, or there is the same problem ?

I just lost two today but I think they jumped lol. I have about twenty grass plots so I know they didnt starve. I dont understand how my animals are gone though.

This! ...
because of the bug/reduction of "waterable grass" from 9(3x3) to 8 at the moment, as well as the noncommunication of the devs, as well their known "no fixes until the next update in a few years" politics, i have to massively redesign my Raft regarding the farm animals (adapt and survive, eh?).

It should be also noted, that because you can't stick fuel pipes through walls, i suppose (haven't gotten to the blueprints for the water pipes yet) the water pipes won't be able either.
This means, you *cannot close off* the perimeter behind a sprinkler with a wall.
This leaves the sprinklers to be on the inside of the pen facing outwards towards the fence (i'm using a half wall, because i read, they'll bug "through" rope fences)...

Also, even if you place them facing outwards in a row (every 4 tiles, as to maximize the area of effect), you have to have one full row of tiles "behind" the sprinklers free for the line of waterpipes that will then be either grassless or not automatically watered.
Unless you choose to place the animal pen on your upper deck in the open and going "up in the air" for one block, zig-zagging the waterpipes while placing the sprinklers in a staggered manner...

I only recently got to know, that you can place sprinklers one level upwards and they still work (loosing the tile underneath, which is bugged right now anyways), as you can also see in Xas's screenshots posted above.
The placement of "one level below" seems to be a bug though... also "no rope fences for animal pens with me! ^^"

Having the option to stick some of the animals one deck below, *without* them bugging out (choosing a grown grass plot out of reach (lazy/bad pet pathing here!)), would be a great relief!

1) The fact that you cannot place sprinklers on grass is probably a bug. Please don't accuse devs of non-communication. They are a small team and they cannot answer everywhere. I sent a bug report and i got a reply that they are working on fixing bugs. Sending reports through their report system is a sure way to get answers.

2) You CAN connect a water pipe to a sprinkler though a wall. All my sprinklers are connected that way.

3) Animal AI has always been an issue in the past especially when new items (pipes in this update) are introduced. Usually devs address that.
