Raft

I don't think this game will have a happy ending.
They try to make it become a story line game and rely on it so much which ruining every purposes of a survivor crafting game. Lots of stuff is and will be restricted to the story, making this game become un-fun for people who only seek creativity in crafting and exploring which also the first purposes of this game and why peope drawn to it. What worse is that the story and stuff revolve around it is not even worth it. Shjtty brainless mob with resemble action and un-interact structures is not a wise choice to add-in. Rather than a fun game where you can crash with your friend, this become a regular game because of its heavily focusing on story and such.

Sorry but without a goal or story it's hard for me to feel compelled to continue playing a game. I like what the devs are doing with Raft.

They'll most likely leave the option for freeplay so one can just carry on without following a story similar to games like The Forest & others maybe. At least I hope so. Plus in a freeplay mode everything necessary is still usually available.

Sorry for making this confusing. What I really mean is this game focus too heavy on story rather than making it's creativity and exploring become more diverse. What I has seen for recent update is either fix bug or bunch of story line that force people to grind and spend too much time it that it may cause them to loose interest in the bland crafting game at basic.

I think it is good that they do some Story bits. But i also agree that the game is pretty empty so far. I would realy like to build an awesome Ship and Sail foreign shores. But the game is still E/A and the Dev Team is Small. Just let em cook some more and eventualy you will like the final product or not. Time will tell.

Survival games could be viewed in a couple of ways & have influence to play outcome. Surviving with the intention of completing a goal/story or just continued surviving non stop. The former appears to suit you and the later personally suits me.

I have to disagree with the OP. Without the story line/ (eventual) ending to work towards I probably would have moved away from this game long time ago. Endless survival in a sandbox, while enjoyable for awhile, just get boring sooner or later and I need a goal to work towards to keep me interested. "is there or is there going to be story/ending" is the first question I ask when considering survival games.

Well, what are we doing now in this system of things? Are we not surviving as much the same?? Do we not get bored? Do we not look for purpose?

Whatever the answers, we just have to get on with it, don't we??

Back to what you say they all reach this point eventually playing endlessly. However they can become games which you can/will come back to now and again. I do this with The Forest. I occasionally go back & pick up where I left off has I'm sure others do too with certain games. The Raft will follow exactly the same path.

Once the ending for Raft is implemented and I've reached it (and I've seen all the content I want to see), I'll probably move on to next survival game. I own three dozen of them (my wishlist has tow dozen more) so it's I don't exactly have a shortage of them. I'll keep Raft installed as I need it as part of my moderator job but doubt I'll actively play it afterwards.

That's where you are wrong. The main purpose of a SURVIVAL & CRAFTING game is its creativity and diversity from its basic mechanism. The moment a survivor & crafting game put story line in it or finish story line is when they have absolutely known that there's no diversity or creativity that they can squeeze out of the game anymore. Which mean, the time for that game is done, it can be removed now. Story line and such is just something to squeeze some more money before the game is dead completely.

For Raft, survivor mechanism is bland and crafting mechanism is bad. The ideal of the game is good but at the moment right now, I think they just give up. They feel too lazy to think of new mechanism and just try to shove bunch of ridiculous story that does not have impact on the game.

It's not bad to put story line in a survival crafting game but it's something that driven player from CRAFTING and use their CREATIVITY. Give them a purposes, they finish it and leave. Story in a survival crafting game equal death sentence to it. Exactly like you said "Once the ending for Raft is implemented and I've reached it (and I've seen all the content I want to see), I'll probably move on to next survival game." You just want to take what you want and leave. You don't get the excitement from "What should I do? What new thing should I become today?".

I don't know what you guys think but if in the next 2 big update, they still choose to release new story chapter instead of improving others feature, then this game is really dead. Devs has finally tired of this game and decide to put bunch of un-interact boring stuff instead of really good time coding for fun elements.

Let me make it simple for you. A LOT of people find the game not boring. If you do, please stop playing. A lot of people find the game enjoyable, and the new content makes it even more so. I have played Raft since it was on itch.io(before steam) and i personally find it great, every new chapter adds more the game. recharging batteries and automating water is HUGE. And treasure hunting will be a lot of fun for a lot of time.

Personally i look at this game as something to play while i watch a TV series or listen to a podcast after work. In it current incarnation the game is really great. And based on the steam reviews 93% of the people that reviewed it in the last 30 days have a very positive opinion on the game and 90% overall. This is a pretty high rating, and speaks by itself.

If this game does not suit you - find another, it is that simple.

This is indeed a discussion forum, not "doom and gloom " forum. Every single patch a new person like you shows up and start calling it a dead game, a boring game, a game the devs don't care about or some variation of the above, and presenting it as it is the "general" opinion backed by semi truths . No it is you personal opinion. The "general" opinion is that the game is good(escpecially for its price), and the devs are doing a great job. Delaying when a patch is not ready, taking into account player suggestions and implementing them in an interesting fashion, while maintain and steady vision of what the game is.

And every time said person(in this case you) blows his anger over multiple threads over weeks.

Don't be like that, if you don't like the game don't play it.

I will even waste time to point out the inconsistencies of YOUR arguments above.

The game asks you to follow the story so much as to obtain blueprints, other than that you can play whatever way you want - that is the survival mode.

You want further creativity - sure there is creative mode for that.

There are further 3 difficulties for people that think the game is too hard or too easy in normal mode.

The story is a "vehicle" to present the game content to the new players in a manner that will not overwhelm them. On top of that the story locations are unique, fun to explore and getting bigger and more interesting with every ne story location.
