Raft

Big rafts and the shark
So, those of you who go on to build larger rafts, how do you deal with the shark? Do you run around doing damage control every now and then or do you try to reinforce the entire boat? Or have you just outright disabled the shark?

Yes, in the early stages i have a sacrificial ring of foundations on the outside of my nets, this give the shark something to chomp on in a predictable area.

Also yes but its a slow process of getting enough metal, and youll need to armor the whole boat. The way the shark works he only attacks the outside foundations unless you armor them.

Then he ignores the armored sections and bites things inside the perimeter.

So when you start to armor the raft start with important things like engines, storage chests, and water/ food productions spaces.

You can "upgrade" your raft and then, the shark can't bit it.

Just upgrade your hull, do from the middle out though as the Shark will just bypass the outer layers and go for the non ungraded parts!

Thanks. Yea, got about a 10x10 of reinforced foundations right now with all my vital stuff, considering to expand it, your sacrificial ring idea seems like a good idea.

A question bout large Rafts.

When you've built up the ideal raft, does the game start to become boring at any point??

My raft is very large but in the tall direction. The number of foundation tiles is relatively small; about 150, including the nets.

I would recommend armoring the important tiles first then the rest.

My ship has 596 platforms. It's very long so if I wanted to keep everything on board safe I'd have to be running around non-stop. The trick: Built a line of platforms around your ship. Since it's too expensive to upgrade all the outer platforms (Bruce will sometimes skip reinforced platforms and attack platform behind) just build a expendable line of platforms. Sure you'll have to replace destroyed platforms every now and then, but still better than losing a chest or animal. Feel free to add me for more:cozyhitman2:

As others have said, you don't want to armor just the outer ring, start in the middle and work out; but that's a lot of metal.
Till then just lay a row or two of blocks around the edge. He usually won't attack the same spot repeatedly so every once in a while do a lap around the ship and just replace what he munched on.
I don't even bother chasing him off anymore. it's easier and cheaper just to replace blocks once in a while. Wood and plastic are plentiful once you get some nets set up.

this is a reasonably large raft that covers the entire debris field, can hold EVERYTHING and has less than 80 foundations.
its a way to armor it up, cheap, without sacrificing space.
