(BUG - SOLVED, kinda...) I can't fill my engines
(EDIT) : I found out that the reason for this is because while you are allowed to PLACE two engines right next to each other (One forward, one directly behind it) you can't actually FILL them. Not unless you go some awkward back way. I'm hoping they become able to be filled if you can see it (Like I can't fill it even if I directly stare at it from standing on top, as shown in screenshots when I formally thought it was a bug.) but it's technically not a "bug" anymore, as I CAN fill them, it's not impossible, I just have to let our favorite shark munch on me and panic fill in the water.

Thank you so much for the help, but I wanted to keep this up somewhat like a request. I know sprinklers were only recently allowed to be placed on grass plots, so i'm hoping a similar fix could work for the engines. How come we can place them right next to each other, and yet they'd block each other from being filled up, despite having a clear sight-line? Seems a little inconvenient if you're still looking at the right spot. Would be nice if engines could be filled from up above as well. <3 Thank you, if you consider this!

~~~Original Post.~~~
Hey there, I haven't posted anything about bugs in this game for awhile, but this really upset me... I recently got back into Raft in an attempt to continue all the new story-mode updates, and recently got the steering wheel and the engines. After looking at the Raft wiki and learning an engine only pushes up to 100 foundations (I counted, I had a little over 200.) I decided I would make a third and fourth engine. (I only need three, but I wanted to keep it even.)
My first two filled quite nicely, they just didn't move because my raft was too big to my slight surprise. So I then built on a slightly higher deck, where I could access my engines from above- only to find my two new engines in the back refused to be filled.
I've tried holding planks wondering if I had to have them selected to fill the engines, rather than just in my inventory, but I get absolutely no option to fill them like the first two. Wondering if I "blocked the way", I looked around, and even got on top of them, but i'm still able to turn it on, change direction, etc. So the other two parts of them work- but I still can't fuel them.
Unless i'm able to fill them up, my two already filled ones won't be enough to push my raft to the next story island, making it so I can't get scared by bears. (Darn. Anxiety was really looking forward to screaming at my PC, lol.) Joking aside, I would really like to continue the story, but I will be unable to sail against the winds currents without all my engines working. (Reminder, I technically only need three, but my point still stands. If only two work- but not three, my raft is simply too large to push.)
I took a few screenshots to show my two filled ones. (In the front.) Vs. my two that refuse to eat some yummy planks. (The picky eaters in the back.) No, I have not progressed enough in the story to make bio fuel, so the only fuel I had was from exploring Vasagatan, found in the wheelhouse at the top of the ship. I can only (currently) give them planks since I already put the fuel in one of my front engines.
I'd really like to continue the story, if anyone can figure out why my second set of engines refuse to eat! (Yes, I even reloaded into the game. The ol', "Have you tried resetting it/turned it off then back on" trick sadly didn't work. :/ )
Yep you have blocked the way. I just built what you have shown in your picture and I ran into the same issue. You can still fill it up if you're in the water looking up to the boiler but you can't access the fill trigger having flooring so high up beside the engine.
So if I remove the flooring next to each one, do you think that would work?.. I put the flooring above like a walk way because it seemed like it'd be easier to access, but I wasn't sure if it'd be the flooring walls, fences, etc. I built around it to keep me from taking a tumble into the water since it's in the back of my raft. (Thank you for taking time to help me, by the way! I really appreciate it. <3 )
Yes it will work if you remove the top row.
Edit: You can have one row of flooring that is half the height of the engine just not 2 rows having the flooring height above the engine.
So I have some news, kind of good and bad... I removed the walkway and it still didn't work, but I did hop into the water as suggested (Risking shark nibbling and I'll only be able to do this when my raft is anchored.) and found that if I come from the back/side when swimming on the waters surface, it'll fill up. So while the path is blocked, it's oddly enough not the walkway... It might be the fact it doesn't like other engines next to it, but i'm still figuring out if that's the case or not.
Oh You have a motor between your paddle wheels. I didn't test that but it would be the same principal of something taller than the engine blocking the trigger. Can you turn the engines around so the paddle wheels are between the 2 motors instead? That would solve your problem. If you don't know what I mean I can take a screenshot.
I would prefer a screenshot, yes, i'm sorry. I'm a visual learner so hearing all the terms is like listening to Charlie Brown's teacher for me, I understand you're trying to help me but don't get a word of it. x'D I was trying to keep all my engines behind my raft, but it doesn't really "go out" to the sides more than that, which is why I put them behind rather than building more onto the sides. It's streamlined, like a small boat, or a large rectangle than a giant square. Wasn't thinking they'd be so terribly picky about what they were next to considering it wasn't red prior to being placed. (Like items don't like clashing with one another/you can't place things there, etc.)
If you turn your engines around with the paddle wheels touching each other like in the picture then you will have access to fill the engines plus when you get fuel line you can hook it up with no interference.
