The sail can't move your raft against wind. Balboa pretty much always spawns in direction that is against the wind so you either need to install engines or have plenty of paddles to reach it.

That's the reason you get engine blueprints from the ship, to build them and reach next location...

yes, the wind is not blowing in the right direction for you. We usually wait a while for it to change. Craft the flag/banner and place it near your sail to see what direction the wind is blowing. Make sure to turn off your radar otherwise it will deplete the battery.

wait the wind changes direction? nooo?

The receiver can be confusing, test it on something that should be easy to get to by following wind before you use it for large-scale navigation.

the wind NEVER changes direction. the wind is ALWAYS against balboa no matter how i approach. I cant get any closer than 1000 units. No amount of paddles will be sufficient for this. It's obvious the goal is to force player to build and use engines to reach balboa.

well jokes on me.
i built my raft as a giant light house with huge perimeter for defenses and collecting, not knowing engine efficiency would decrease as my raft gets bigger (because sails don't). Took several days to complete my floating paradise and fully decorate it.

i built 6 engines and put them next to each other but they can't push forward since my raft is too big. I don't have any more sensible space and I don't know how many more engines i would need since there's no clear indication what exactly decreases engine efficiency. I have to smash all my raft to find out and reach balboa.

i'm NOT enjoying this.

If you look at the engine it says not very clearly one engine for 100 blocks (only the floor blocks not walls or ceilings), you will have to count how many blocks touching water your ship has or put engines on till it works, the resourse colecting nets dont count as blocks tho.

xd

can anyone confirm triangle foundations count as full block or half block? And wooden floors count as a block?
roses46 Jul 12, 2020 @ 3:05pm
Not sure how triangles are counted. Floors do not count, so making a taller raft won't slow you at all.

i counted triangle foundations in creative mod.
i can confirm each triangle foundation counts as a full block for engine efficiency,
even when they are built next to each other to form a full foundation- then it counts as 2 blocks.

i knew it.
so...did i mention a very little tiny harmless detail,
that i built my whole raft with triangle foundations

ha ha.

this is a nightmare :steamsalty:

Hope you haven't armored yet. You can break triangles with hatchet for return of what it took to build them. The armor on the place disappears.

Or instead of waiting the wind to change simple USE the Engines we got from the boat xD
Aria Rain Jul 3, 2021 @ 1:31am
I've been trying to reach that island for half the day. i have the engine. but it doesn't help even a little. i just keep going backwards or at best, standing still. I feel like the only way this engine would do any kind of good is to cover the entire flood of the raft with them
Build a streamer to see the wind direction, if wind is never in your favor just have patient and drift around
