Raft

3rd person mode not working?
Does 3rd person not work, or do I do anything wrong? When I try to swim, I always walk on the ground until I switch to 1st person and back. Using a paddle or spear does not work (doesn't move the raft/hit the target). This is utterly annoying. Also when switching between 1st and 3rd person I turn 180 degree, making hitting a target in time nearly impossible.
When on an island, things just despawn after a while (including shark) and all I can do is swim until I die of thirst/hunger.

If anyone can explain this or give me advise, I'd be gratefull. Kindly don't advise me to use 1st person because it's better - I can't, thanks.

Just tested and had no issue with swimming (my character swims when in deep enough water), paddling, cutting trees and shooting arrows in 3rd person. Hitting moving target with spear was extremely difficult but I did manage to land a hit after awhile. Gauging distance is hard on 3rd person so even shooting arrows was bit more difficult.

Paddling did work but there's slight difference to 1st person: in 1st person you can change the direction of paddling merely with the mouse while in third person you turn the camera with mouse and your character does not turn so it'll continue to paddle in direction it previously did.

My character did not turn around when changing between 1st and 3rd person mode either.

Did you anchor your raft? World only exist certain radius around your raft. If raft moves far enough away from things, they will despawn, including but not limited to island you might be standing on and as island no longer exists you'll end in water. To prevent this, always anchor your raft in place when leaving your raft for any reason.

Man, thanks for the trouble you took testing this!
I couldn't anchor my raft as I did not encounter any stone yet. The problem with despawning occured always on my first island (I couldn't get past this point yet). The raft was in sight most of the times (I "parked" it so the waves would press it to the shore in a save spot). Maybe I wandered off to far on the island...

For paddling and fighting - for me it does the animation, but there is no effect at all, no matter how I turn the camera or change my position.
But thanks for the help, I'll try again as soon as I recovered a bit. Guess it's a matter of practice. When it works for you there must be a sweetspot somewhere.

It was only short test to see if the things you reported were reproducible. There may very well be problems with the 3rd person that have not been reported yet as I'd expect most people sticking 1st person (lot of people aren't even aware it exists) most of the time. More extensive testing would be needed to tell if there is or isn't problem with 3rd person combat so if you're volunteering, be my guest. :lunar2020playfuldog:

Don't be shy reporting any issue you might encounter with the game in general.

Any errors or obvious bugs should be reported directly to the developers so they can take a look here:

Yeh I only use 3rd for screenshots and don't get off your raft until you can make an anchor. Oh and be careful not to throw yourself in after it.

Well thanks, but I don't think I'll play this much until it is properly payable. I'm not exactly keen to constantly take medicine for a game and I don't like it when Early Access is actually charged Beta Testing.
But anyways, I honestly thank you! I don't get such nice and good-meant help in the forums very often with my "no 1st person" issues. I really appreciate it. Wish both of you much fun with the game!

@Martin
Man, the anchor is freaking important. I figure that my "bug" with despawning everything is because the game thinks that the raft moves on if there is no anchor set. When I used an anchor, everything was just fine. And yep, I already had that "throwing myself in" moment xD

Yeh I restart games after I get all 3 tame animals, I've made maybe 5-6 runs now through the game content. (in solo play)

In early game I just get barrels with the hook, to conserve it and nearby wood and plastic I just jump off the raft and swim around grabbing it until shark hits me to 50% hps, then I jump on raft and heal. I concentrate on building the raft wide, 3 deep, out to about 20 tiles.

Putting my machines on the middle row. Then you can just run back n forth picking up flotsam, and get any further away barrels.

Collect barrels to get stones, first make an anchor, but don't place on raft.. then make a stone axe. Then at next island as you approach look for metal scrap, if it's there, drop anchor, chop trees, make bow and arrows, kill shark, dive for scrap, clay, sand and seaweed. Metal and copper also, basically clear everything from the island.

Use the paddle to put one end of the raft to left or right of island, otherwise it get's knocked off it's center line, which is probably the worst thing that can happen until you get steering wheel.

Then add nets to front.. build back slowly, fending off shark attacks, killing birds via nests. Although I have shot them out of the sky as well. That was a whoop moment.

I've noticed that when switching to 3rd person the game saves the direction you were facing and when you switch back to first person it will have you facing in your original direction again. So let's say you were facing north, switch to 3rd person and turn to face the east. When you go back to first person you will be facing north again.
