Glitching through island terrain?

This has happened twice on two different playthroughs.
I keep glitching through the ground on the really tall large island- like a hundred foot fall down into the water. I immediately quit out but now when I reload, I guess the game auto saved the exact moment I clipped through the floor because I just fall all over again. It's quite a distance from where I fell in back to my boat, even assuming I can clip back through the ground from the other direction.

So far I've only ever encountered this on this specific large island- never my raft or small islands. I've never found the other type of large island to see if this happens there too.

Is there anything I can do besides drown and respawn?

Just to make sure: You are actually clipping thru the island and can see the island above/around you and your raft is still anchored or did your raft possibly float away resulting in island despawning out from under you and you ending up in middle of empty ocean?

If it's later, that's by design. World only exist certain distance around your raft and anything outside that radius will despawn.

If it's the former, it's either a bug or there is a fault in island geometry that needs to be fixed. As such you should submit a bug report so the developers can take a look here:

Do try to attach screenshot and/or describe the island and exact location the best you can as finding faults in the terrain can be pain in the rear.

As for getting back to your raft, there are mods that allow you to do that in various ways (enabling noclip or teleporting you to your raft).

I'm not too familiar with steam's screenshot sharing, but here goes.

Right where I clipped through. It's right near the hike up the side near where that piggy spawns. Got caught on the edge of the underside of a mountain so I could chill out to take pictures.

I could swim underneath without getting caught on anything and I could see the shark and pufferfish swimming outside trying to get in.

Yes. It'll add the report to developer's bug tracker where they can keep track of bugs that have been reported and their status (usually something like open, closed, solved, being investigated etc. depending on the tracker).

Do include a link to this topic for the screenshots.
