poor performance
Why am I having so many issues running this game on the lowest settings when I have a great pc ?

My specs
CPU - Intel i7-8700k 6-Core 4.7 GHz
GPU - EVGA 1070ti
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 4000
SSD - Samsung 970 EVO M.2 1TB

It's not finished. It's in Early Release.

Simplified version of what's going on: The FPS issue comes from Unity and the constant generation of code that happens to keep the raft in it's correct position on the water. That's why the bigger the vessel, the harder time you'll have. More code, more loss.

They're working on it.

What's the size of your raft?

Very large, however, that shouldn't happen. I understand the game is fairly new, but optimization should be at the top of your priority list.

Yes, yes it should happen. No matter what game you play, once your house/entities/whatever gets large enough, your game will start to experience less FPS. That is completely normal, and also what happens here. The reason raft especially has an issue with this is due to the fact that the larger the raft is, the more physics the game has to calculate, hence slowing down your system. It's very unique on that front, because in most other games, the house / things you build are standing still, and not moving across a vast sea. :)

I have no idea. My raft is large but not that large and I am seriously getting 7fps... Can not even play that. I find myself very frustrated and realizing that maybe I can no longer run this game. I tried to play it on friends pcs as well just to see if it's a "me" problem .. But nope.My raft is 16 tiles across by 16 tiles.. 1/4 of it has three lvls.. I justt don't understand.

Yes I do understand what you say. I just figured if you are going to build a game such as raft (which I do enjoy) , you have to build around that fact. I suppose my raft games are coming to an end.

Yeah your game shouldn't be lagging that much with such a small raft... 16x16 with only a quarter with 3 levels is not that large of a raft at all.

This is true Quire, but it should not be so bad that the game is unplayable...I have had to stop playing for this very reason which is sad because i was enjoying it.
It boils down to the fact that if its not fixed or at least improved.. you will lose your player base.

Sadly this is true. I really enjoyed this game. But 7fps... it's a comic book.

I second this, running:

i9 - 9900k

64gb ram

2x 1080ti

SSD's

My Raft is the same size its been since the last time i played (1-2 months ago), Which played perfectly fine, 100+ fps at all times.

Tried to play it again with friends again the last couple of days and its running horrid, getting fps at anywhere from 7-15 max fps.. This needs to be Optimized in the next update.

Had 3 friends with PC builds similar to mine, buy the game 2 days ago to play it with me and another friend i usually play with. They played it for around 30 mins then got refunds..

The game in the current state is terrible... Dev's you need to look into this.. and quickly..

This info helps me feel better thanks :) ... it isn't just me . Shame though cause I really liked that game.

intel i7-6800k 3.4 ghz
32 gig memory
geforce gtx 1080

and it runs at 60 fps

but it does slow down to about 40 fps after about 15 minutes, but out then in again , the game that is and back to 60 fps ??

cpu slower than you lot so ?? maybe other issues, to much other stuff running on your machine??
a paging problem
anti virus or something down loading and using resources ??
just wierd that my machine is s much better

That's not a large raft by any means that's a medium raft.

They do NEED to work on performance issues as they keep adding things to the game (animals is next up) which require us to build larger rafts and as they know, larger rafts slow down the game terribly.

Many developers seem to leave performance for last where they boast that they managed to get 2-4% increase. Sorry but that won't be enough in Raft.

Currently you can use a mod to basically disable physics at the price of some cons, such as being able to go through islands with your raft, but it does help tremendously as far as FPS goes.

I have no doubt that maybe some may see no problems at all. I live with a computer technician who does this junk for a living. He loaded it up on his pc for me to try and resulted on the same issue. That raft in the picture there... is a tiny raft lol.
Syanis Feb 3, 2019 @ 9:22pm
In a game like this building a raft more then 30x30x3 should NOT be causing issues for those with a half decent gaming rig. Plenty of other games have done far more with far more detail that these rigs could still get 80-100fps yet on raft starting to get 5-15fps? it shows some serious flaws. I understand the desire for so much water effects, fog, and lighting effects but if that is limiting someone to building a large raft even on the lowest settings then its time to seriously change things up.
