Engine and shark
Will the shark attack the foundation that the engine is standing on? If it does, how do I protect it?

Yes there are 3 bases needed for the engine
You have to use foundation armor

The shark can directly eat your engine without going through the foundation :) Have lost two engines that way. First time was when I placed my first two engines, thought they would be safe as other stuff that spans several foundations survive unless the shark eats all the foundations. But it just ate the engine directly :) The other time I lost one was when I was placing my 4th engine and forgot to reinforce the foundation :)

Put foundation armor on all your foundations and you will never have to worry about the shark until... you jump into the sea ;)

If you're rich, you can reinforce the foundations of your entire raft, then have little non-reinforced foundation extensions on all 4 sides of your raft. Sharks will opt for attacking non-reinforced foundations 100% of the time, meaning you can literally control which foundations the shark will eat away at first, allowing a controllable buffer between the shark attacks and anything built on valuable foundations. Granted, it obviously takes an enormous amount of iron, but it's worth it to get that 100% guarantee that a shark will never attack anything except bait-foundations extending off the sides that can be easily replaced or repaired. Using this method you can just place your engines on reinforced foundations, and so long as the raft has some that aren't reinforced still present for a shark to bite, the engines are 100% safe.

Why do you need those bait-foundations?
