1. Not a kids game
- It literally deals with an extinction level event in which almost all of humanity died
- You fight a shark to death
- You fight other horrific monsters which are mutated birds, rats and bears
2. Profanity? What Profanity?
- Your kid is either so extremely sheltered that it considers the word "po**" worse than "sh**" or you are making a mountain out of a molehill
- Your kid will learn a lot more profanity in school, let alone on youtube or other games that are for children. This game is NOTHING when it comes to profanity
3. It is your right as a parent to decide what your kid plays
- So good on you for actually doing the job a parent has to do
- However it isnt to you to tell the devs off when it comes to what they want to to do with their "not marketed to children" game
- If this were a lego game which is entirely focused on children, then I would understand the outrage at little Timmy being able to see the "Fu**" word in it
- Though I would recommend against the "Ban" from the game as thus far the station is literally the only place the kid will ever deal with any "profanity" in the first place. But seeing as the kid is already not allowed to see some bad words they likely already know by this point, they probably shouldnt play any further seeing the monsters in this game as those will most likely cause them nightmares which is by far more damaging than "lil timmy" saying the fu** word
I try to limit foul language around them because I'd like them to learn the more polite and proper ways to communicate before throwing profanity and all it's mess into the mix. But I do plan to educate them into why such words are considered "foul" and why it's not advisable to resort to them, especially in excess.
My main talking point was that this isn't strictly speaking a kids game and that eventually, all children get exposed to profanity, so may as well try to "get in the first punch" and educate.
That's all.
I'm not condoning foul language, but I'm acknowledging there's really no escaping it in the world.
And yes, Bruce is the great white from Finding Nemo, who in turn is a reference to the JAWS shark, which was called "Bruce" by the production team as a dig at Steven Speilberg's lawyer.
Raft is giving a collective nod to this shark history. ;)
I guess the point I was really trying to get at is, this game is great, I personally don't find that the use of the term "bastard" retracts from the narrative, as Raft is set in a desperate apocalyptic world. I don't think the developers deserve to lose monetary support over this issue. A profanity filter is really the best option to make everyone happy here, its a quick edit to change that texture file to some other word like "jerk". " I got you Bruce you jerk" sounds just as good to me.
If you and your child enjoy this game I'd love to help make this game suitable for the both of you. So here is "a little empathy" from me to you. I will actually support you on this and email the developers as well. I never meant any of my words to be stones <3.
Hello from the US! Firstly, I would like to say I LOVE this game, and am really enjoying the new content in the recent update! I've bought the game twice for myself and my girlfriend. However, it has come to my attention that some of my friends here in the US are disturbed by the usage of profanity in the new update. Some of them like to play this game with their young children and find the language used in the narrative too graphic. While I personally don't have an issue with this, some of my friends are deeply upset and willing to stop backing your project altogether!
Would it be possible to include a profanity filter to censor some of the harsher language in the game? Or perhaps edit the "I got you Bruce you Bastard" texture to read " I got you Bruce you Jerk" instead?
Thank you for your time and effort. We all appreciate it!
Anything else I can describe as a profanity. Jerk? Jerking a snake - obviously a profanity. Ban the word! Jackass - profanity. There's "ass" word in it.
Guys, don't be stupid! The text is pretty innocent!
On a surface level, Raft is pretty damn appealing to kids. Having the option to swap those textures out doesn't sound like it would be too much work either.
I agree in this case its pretty innocent, but there are folks out there who find the word bastard specifically offensive. If not the devs, perhaps someone could create a mod that swaps those textures.
For the record, she's a great kid and wicked smart.
I believe honesty and open communication with kids is best and not trying to protect them from knowledge of the world.
Won't even comment your sentence. You did it yourself. Kinda... "none of your business" is the main idea. Just one comment to the last sentence: Why do the peoples feels good to dictate other peoples (read: developers) HOW to create a game? Their child is THEIR child. And "none of your business!" but creating a game (developer's child) is also their business. Dual standarts? Or what?
Explain yourself? I do HIGHLY doubt developers forces your with a barrel over your head kinda "Play our game or we'll pulll the trigger!".
