Is the big or "mama" bear kill-able?

I have used an entire metal spear on the thing and its still alive. I am retarded and the devs have already said its not kill-able

It took me 7 metal arrows but I am not sure if the bears that I have killed were mama bears.

It doesn't appear to be killable. There should be berry bucket where you can place wild berries, which will distract the bear so you can walk past them without them attacking you.

I actually finally killed it! It took quite awhile but there is an achievement and everything! You collect 5 berries and put them in the basket near her cave. Then she comes out and you can attack her.
