Animal Spawn

A friend of mine and me wanted to catch a dodo, therefore we needed gun powder from the puffer fish, but unfortunately we didn't get it cause the fish exploded (i know how to kill them, I'm just bad at it)
And now my question: Do these fish respawn or all animals in general? How does it work?

They don't respawn but you'll get more changes to find them on other Large Islands.
