Keep in mind that most games from 1998-2004 were tied to gamespy arcade servers, and the moment that went down, we lost the ability to play countless old titles online without the use of mods/3rd party tools, and even then not everything is possible to play online anymore.
One question......
How much have you used Steam?
I think you're either trolling, mistaken or confused
Obviously more than you two. Getting into a game through Steam regardless of friend list or password isn't new. Hell, it isn't even new to RAFT. Plenty of reports of people crashing into other people's games. And spare me the "Is Steam going to die?!" There are plenty of game severs dead today people said the exact same stupid thing about. IP/LAN will always work long after a server dies.
Does anyone have an actual answer to the question or we just going to play +1 all day?
From launch,
the game had only options to load raft world for ' Solo Play ' and allowing ' Steam Friends ', who have the game, logged on and sees a world on their ' Join ' list, since a host had set to ' Allow Join '.
Recently a new added option, ' Everyone can Join ', which believed only by
' Steam Invite ' from your ' friend's ' list could join.
Really sees no problem in setting the world to preference, being Solo, Allowed to Join or Password entry.
Your 2nd paragraph sounds weird,
since you have had games that used ' Steam Friends ' for invites.
Throughout my hundreds of hours, I have yet seen ' strangers ' appearing onto my raft without my knowledge.
*Not keen on debates.
hahaha good1
It is like a Trump rally up in here the level of stupidity. I guess thanks, Xas, for the dumbest answer, but at least it was an answer. Raft has been out quite a while and I am quite familiar with what was said at launch. Just because you haven't had anyone mysteriously show up in your game doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Others on this very forum have reported people not on their friend's list joining their games. These events have happened before AND after the "Everyone can join" option was added to the game. The question was if anyone knew if it would ever either go to GoG or eventually add this option. All I've gotten are some of the most pathetic posts I've ever seen. I'm just going to assume "no". It is a hell of a lot easier than dealing with this nonsense.
Steam forums... what a ♥♥♥♥ show.
While nothing is laid in stone and developers haven't even speculated about possible release outside Steam, I don't think it's likely. Raft multiplayer is entirely based on Steam Multiplayer API and reliant on Steam infrastructure to operate. Entire multiplayer portion would essentially have to be stripped out and rewritten in order to sell game other platforms like GOG. That's lot of work for unknown benefits. Like with Mac/Linux/console support, I recommend asking the question again once game is fully released.
Might also be better to direct the question directly to the developers[www.redbeetinteractive.com] rather than ask public opinion here on Steam forums.
To avoid discussion going further down the drain, I'm locking this topic.
