Raft

Hard mode is too hard now?
Does anyone else find hard impossible now? We have 2 sharks attacking every couple of minutes, we're just in a battle of gathering wood to fix the raft. No chance to do anything else. I don't expect hard to be easy but cmon.

If we hit the shark with spears we use more wood making new spears so we've resorted to letting the sharks break the raft. But then it's replacing the parts that got broken and the sharks attack again, we can't catch a break. The small breather we do get is spent desperately trying to get hunger/thirst up which seems to drop crazy fast.I think hard was great before, now it really isn't.

Hard mode changes:
- chance of multiple sharks spawning when you kill one
- sharks health has been increased a bit
- requires 5 hits instead of 4 (basic spear I assume) for it to go away.
- shark attacks more frequent, but random pattern
- Food and Thirst is harder to sustain
- all enemies have had their damage increased

None of the above are in Normal mode.

hard mode is far too tedious to be fun now.. I started a new hard mode game and played for a bit but I won't go back to it.. I didn't die, I just have no desire to play that again... the changes sucked all the fun out of it

Hard was more like between Medium difficulty and Hard Difficulty , now it's Hard difficulty , and it's more realistic

Well the developers will probably think about that

i really don't think it's a question of difficulty.. they took something generally regarded as tedious (the shark) and doubled it. It turns early-mid game into a much longer wood grind, stretching out the content they already had, rather than adding anything new. I'm not opposed to a challenging hard mode, just that the recent changes are unimaginative, grindy, and not a fun way to add more challenge.

I enjoy the challenge, but yeah don't kill the shark. Let it tear things down and rebuild, and armor your raft. Made the mistake of killing the sharks the first time. This round I have not killed the first one and making good progress.

Also don't mind that is slower/grindy, normal or easy you finish way to fast it feels like. Well unless you are going nuts on a large raft.

I played hard solo, and enjoyed the challenge...My number one thing to do on and difficulty is to armour my raft a few blocks at a time, make a gather net and armour that, work on the cooking pot, place all items on armoured floor, grow crops, make veg stew, work on smelter, then you will sustain, and find it a challenge and not as hard as you think, GL.

i played hard mode to get hopefully more screechers per island but to hard for me got really angry in the end.

i will try post 4's idea dont kill the shark ie only 1. may make a hell of a difference. does the reinforcing stop the tile from being destroyed?
could be on purpose so you grow lots on your raft cause the shark meat and eggs are all you need normally

in solo hard is very challenging, you can't rest until you make good stuff from a smelter and lay down armor

I wouldnt say its too hard (and btw, to play on hard is a choice nobody is forced to take)
But it comes down to luck finally.

As example
First small island = 2 Watermelons and you survive. If you have the island with pineapples you have a problem, if you miss that island (for what reason ever) you die

(sure i guess theres a other way to get food and water early enough)

just wanted to add I'm still enjoying normal difficulty :)

wonder if we might see 'custom' difficulty at some point? where you could enable the 2nd shark, tweak hunger/thirst rates, etc.. tho I understand that might make more work on the devs

i take all my winging back and appologise to the devs as with a little advice from those above this game is fantastic in hard mode. If I had any brains I may have thought of this myself but sadly no such thing.
So rewarding when you finally get your raft functional.
I had great problems with the 2 sharks but made it after being rescued twice. all the foundations are reinforced now.
I couldnt get the shark to take the bate and learned that it needs some foundation to eat to kick it off ie take the bait eventually. ( all the foundations were reinforced nothing for the sharks to attack)
and for some reason i found the sharks got bored with no foundation to eat so one of them dissapeared ???
Or I killed one and it didnt resporn.
thanks devs a great game.

(I winged in some posts above but since have found they were unfounded so deleted ém)
