Raft
No raft rotation?
I went so far as to build two sails in order to rotate my raft. But they just cancel each other out. Is there really no programming to rotate the raft without running into an island?

Could go ' further ' until you encounter the ' Steering Wheel '.

You can build a rudder once you find the blueprints. Otherwise the only other way I know is to bump your raft into an island to rotate it.

They really do need to fix this. You should be able to use a paddle to turn the raft by using it to drag the water to force the raft to turn.

This will complicate things big time. The steering wheel is a spot-on solution for this problem. As a person who has been playing Raft for quite a lot and for a quite a while, do NOT touch the paddle / sail functionalities. A lot more problems to add than to solve there.

So why does the steering wheel have to be a late/end game item then? We should have the function when we begin the game. We shouldn't be punished for wanting this very needed mechanic. This is the only thing I hate about this game. It is a feature we all want but the devs would not deliver it for years. Now it's hidden behind hours of grinding.

Being able to ratate the raft is possible in early stages of the game by using a paddle + sail and bumping oneself against an island. That's how we did it for over 2 years actually(i am NOT saying it is fun or super easy). Also the steering wheel is found in the second story location, so relatively early on.
Early in the game raft direction is not that big of an issue, unless one deliberately delays going to story locations and builds a huge raft before that.
My advice - follow the story and build up your raft along with it.

No the raft gets off set by hitting an island and only by hitting an island. They could have never made rotation a thing and we wouldn't have the issue in the first place. What would the size of a raft matter at all towards traveling from island to island? Early game would mean anything before the first location. It takes time to get enough mats to build a forge let alone two. smelting and crafting all of the stuff after that. You are encouraged by the game to build up so you can place your equipment far apart. Raft direction is constantly an issue since you are always at risk of it being turned and stuck that way for no reason, obviously lol.

aaa you are protesting that raft rotation is a thing at all. Well i kinda disagree here. Especially considering we have steering wheel + engines now. Its super easy to rotate raft in the direction you want and switch the engines on. Makes traveling to locations on the radar pretty fast. Before engines, well i might have agreed with that notion although i never really minded it. My raft is build in a way that its moving direction is not that relevant. I can understand that the raft rotating was a big deal for other people and i was also rooting for a rudder/steering wheel.

I mentioned the size of the raft as a factor ONLY in the sense that deliberately making a huge raft early on and delaying doing the story will delay you access to the steering wheel.

Getting the smelter done + beginning to smelt can be done after visiting 2 smaller islands nowadays as the loot from smaller islands has been up-ed. The choke for crafting a smelter are the bricks. For one smelter you need 6*2 = 12 sand and 12 clay.

As for constantly getting stuck - as long as you keep an eye on the horizon its not that easy to get "surprised" by something that will turn your raft around .

Firstly I'd like to say that there really is no "need" to rotate a raft in a particular direction. It doesn't affect the wind or how the sail works, so it really just comes down to personal aesthetics. And you don't have to build a large raft, at least it's area. You can build tall, and doing it right could make everything closer. Less to spend on base raft tiles, less to reinforce. Just gotta get creative, man. Lastly, the steering wheel really isn't that difficult to obtain. You can get it within an hour of gameplay, maybe two. Point is, doesn't take long. The only real benefit of it appears when your engines are running.

"aaa"?

We do NOT have the steering ability along with the rest of the raft abilities at the beginning of the game. It should be a mechanic, not something you earn endgame to force people to keep playing these updates. I don't get why y'all are getting hung up on that. The raft should either not tilt permanently from hitting things OR we get the mechanic to correct it straight off the bat. No other game has ONE ability you need from the get go and locks it away for most of the game. That is undeniably poor design.

You think that heading straight to the "story" areas being experienced at this game means everyone can do all of that in an hour. How dumb of a thing to say. You have to think of it from a normal play session perspective. Not from someone that has played many many sessions of course. Smelters does not take a single player new to the game only two islands. You can see a hint of general player base progression by looking at the achievements.

"As for constantly getting stuck" Of course people learn from the first hit and are forced to make a new game session because it . >.> It's sickening that it gets saved in that direction. If you want trash to come at you like it is supposed to then you have to avoid touching anything. What I'm saying is obvious. It is poor design and the devs like it that way it seems. People have said the devs told them no in the past for a fix.

I don't mean to sound aggressive but this is plain as day true stuff lol....Don't settle for what they are passing as a fix. Oh yey! I get to fix my raft now that I'm all done playing the game! Come on people.

It's called an upgrade. Every single game does this, makes you play through to get an upgrade like the steering wheel. Idk why you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about this, since it's nothing new in video games.

Yo, again, you don't "need" this. If you're new, then it really shouldn't be a problem because you've got plenty of other things to worry about then "which way is my raft facing". If you're having problems catching debris with your nets then you need to reevaluate how your building your raft instead of attacking game mechanics. This rotation thing isn't as big a deal as you make it out to be. Just get you a steering wheel already so you can straighten your raft out since you can't be bothered to do it any other way.

Personally, I'd give the paddle a RT Click ability to stick it in the water and cause the raft to slowly bank in the appropriate direction.

I like my raft facing the "right direction" as well, but as far as survivability goes it serves no real purpose to rotate your raft. Just because your raft is "facing" a certain direction doesn't mean you'll go that direction. Even with a steering wheel, turning your raft does nothing for overall gameplay. All rotating your raft does is make it more pleasing to the eye, it does not change how easy or difficult the game plays. Really don't need to consider things to add to the game to make it better for you, you just need to up your skills.
