Raft

the sharks need to take a chill brake.
I understand the predators add a fear factor and a sense of urgency but these sharks are ridiculous. they will fallow you nonstop across the sea into shallow water if needed. they don`t rest or sleep at all. the only breathing room you can get is if you use shark bait to momentary kill one and waiting for another to take their place and continue the endless hunt. unless the protagonist killed the shark king and the sharks are on a quest for vengeance and honor or something like that. these sharks should sleep at night or at the bare minimum stay away from shallow waters and allow the players to play the game. just an idea to make the game fun

I have to agree with OP. It's like two minutes from the first kill and another one spawns and is biting you while you're trying to mine. They are an endless swarm and after awhile it just feels tedious & frustrating.

Its 3 and a half minutes to be more precise. As for safely exploring underwater. When you reach a big island, part your raft on one side of it and jump in the water on the other side of the islands and the shark will not follow.

I posted this in another thread, but here's how I do it:

Worry-free underwater scavenging in single player:

  1. Park far* away from islands
  2. Prepare two shark baits
  3. Throw one shark bait in the water and wait for the shark to attack it (I usually throw it off the side of the raft opposite the island)
  4. When the shark attacks the bait, swim for the island
  5. Get everything you can underwater without worrying about the shark
  6. When its time to swim back, have your second shark bait equipped
  7. Swim pretty close** to the raft (If you can see the shark underwater, you're probably too close)
  8. Throw the second shark bait towards the raft and swim back towards the island
  9. Watch for the shark to attack the bait (if the shark turns towards you instead of the bait, you're too close*** to the bait - head for land!)
  10. When the shark attacks the bait, swim for the raft

* Experiment with how far is necessary. You need to be able to see the island but I'm usually far away enough that trees and etc. on the island start to disappear.
** Be very careful with how close you get to the raft. Too close, and the shark will attack you. Too far, and the shark won't go for the bait.
*** I died once this way when the shark ignored the bait and attacked me, now I'm more careful.

I always park my raft away from islands. Regardless if the shark follows you or not you can get to the island and dodge him by jumping out of the water when he lunges if need be. When you set foot on the island the shark will go back to the raft and that leaves you free to mine resources under water.

The shark only goes after you if you are close enough to him, if he is not targeting you then he has a timer that counts down for the next raft attack

Only if you kill the shark. I always play hard mode and never kill the shark because it makes diving a nightmare.
