Raft

Best way to farm feathers?
Is it faster to kill seagulls or just let them nest and leave? After killing two it seemed to take forever for them to nest again after respawning.

Build multiple nests in various places around your raft. Make a point of doing rounds to them every 30 Minutes or so.

I have 5 nests but there are only 2 seagulls (apparently) so I removed 3. Do more than 2 nests help?

The bigger the raft, the more seagulls. (up to 5)

Once a nest is full of feathers (3) the seagulls will stop landing in it and use another one (if its not full of feathers) If all are full, they will land there anyway.

So if better having around 6 if you do not check them all the time.

Since Seagulls spawn fast (2 mins) its still faster to kill them for feathers and meat.

Do you know how "big" is measured? Is it number of foundations? That would be annoying, I don't want much more than I have (11x11 plus a few "bumps" to jump up on from the water).

It's taking longer for me, it seems, maybe that changes with difficulty? I'm playing on normal currently.

The only "source" I can find is from a mod called "Seagull Master"[www.raftmodding.com] which has a setting that says:

seagullSpawnInterval - The minimum time before a seagull can spawn: <min> [max] (default: 5 7)

5-7 minutes might be more like what I'm seeing, though it feels longer :steambored:

Also, I've noticed that after they respawn, they take forever to "target" a nest unless I remove and replace the nests -- then they nest almost immediately.

Anybody else notice that?

Grow potatoes and beets, put up scarecrows.. Never ending stream of gulls.. I have a chest full of feathers and almost no use for them.. I've been throwing them overboard all game.

I've noticed the exact same thing, and just remove and replace as you do to get them to nest again.

That sounds like a bug then, I'll file it.

edit: filed
