Raft

Does the shark attack your boat even when you're on a large island/out of sight ?
Just wondering what people do when they explore larger areas (Assuming you don't have a foundation to protect against the attacks).

Well before i armored up all foundations i used to have an extra ring of foundations around my entire raft that i considered "expendable". There is the small chance that the shark will ignore it and go for an inner one but its pretty small. Armoring up every important foundation(those that hold pillars and stairs) should be a priority and after that everything else.

I also advise to build vertically initially, that way you will need less armoring up to do. Once you have enough resources then expand foundations and armor up and the same time.

Maybe this is where the multiplayer teamwork aspect comes in. I try to mainly eat on fish so that I'm fishing enough to catch the tiny ones used as shark bait. I need those playing solo to keep him off my back when I dive or to give me time to kill on an island. If it's been a long time since he attacked i wait for him to do it again and then leave right after jabbing him.

I'm simply wondering if the shark despawns when you're X amount of distance from your raft? Or does he just continue to attack regardless if you're out of range or not

If not, yes, I thought of just putting down bait while I scavenge.

The shark will always be attracted towards your raft, until you are within its sight or start making alot of noise scavenging.

If the raft isn't fully protected and stationary.
Build some bait foundations protruding outwards.

Throw a bait, hit it a few times as it attempts to chew it, if u fancy or even kill it.
or
Throw a bait while its not looking, jump onto the shallows, trek away from raft against the rocks or island edge,
dive and enjoy more time.
If it comes, hop out of water onto rock, wait for it to swim back to your raft.

Always smarter to dive away from raft.

Some thing's I've noticed:
- almost as soon as I return from a long expedition, the shark goes right for the raft as though it's been waiting - every single time.
- sometimes after I return, I'll happen across a few foundations that are damaged but not destroyed. I'm usually well out to sea before I notice, so I suppose it could have happened while I was doing stuff at the other end of the raft - I don't always hear the shark, but it's also possible it happened while I was away on land.

So maybe it does attack while we're gone, maybe it doesn't, but I behave like it doesn't, and it hasn't been an issue.

It does. I just armored my entire raft so i never have to worry about it. Before i would have to go back every once in a while just to make sure it didn't bite off something important.

Thanks for the input. I don't have any issues dealing with the Shark per sa, just curious what happens. I haven't armored anything yet - my raft is quite large I have like 30 collection nets along 3 sides of the perimeter. Not that practical with defending, but easy looting.
