Raft

Do Anchors Expire?
Do throwable anchors have a time limit for holding you in one place?

It seemed to me they did when I played before. After a while my anchor would just disappear and my raft would start drifting again. It made me scared to go ashore because I was afraid my raft would disappear without me.

The disposable anchor does not disappear on its own if left 'untouched' after thrown.
More likely after the shark took the piece of foundation its on.

Simply build a few ' outwards extending ' foundations beyond the anchor as ' bait '.

I only use disposable anchors because they take less space and i've never had any disappear on me. Once you can afford foundation armor you should put them on an armored tile and you won't have to worry about the shark biting it off either.

Pro tip: in the interim have your sail against the wind when you drop anchor so even if the shark bites off your anchor the raft won't go away very far.

If he can create armored pieces, then go with proper anchor and put armor on those foundations. It will be always there unlike when you forgot to craft disposal one and past an island.
If youre at the point of normal anchor and armored foundation, I dont think not having space for it is an excuse, unless you want your raft to be small.

If you have your sail against the wind you'll go so slow you have time to gather resources, build the disposable anchor and deploy it so time is not an issue. But just in case i always have 2 disposable anchors at any given time so if i forget to replace one i have a spare. Still takes up a heck of a lot less space than the big anchor and a smaller raft is easier to armor and requires fewer engines.

Sail is okay till wind wont change.

Ok, I don't get this. I read so many posts about the wind changing and I have never experienced this. At best my raft got spun from bumping into something. But, for me at least, the current/wind is always towards the sunrise, East.

Same. I clocked 210 hours in the game so far and the wind never changed once. It will always push you towards the sunrise.
It will only point the wrong way if your raft bumps into the island causing it to turn but i always park on the side of the island so i never have to worry about bumping into things. Worst case scenario you can have your sail pointing back and slightly away from the island.

Wind does change ingame. I only use my 4 engines, if I need to steer around. I use sails and steering wheel most of the time. Wind change al the time in my game. I can sail with the wind and after some time my ship will either slow down or even stop cause wind change. Maybe you guys just dont notice.

It could be that the steering wheel is slowly pushing you off course (it has some issues in that regard). Try removing it and the wind might stop "shifting" all of the sudden.

I don't use steering wheel or engine (they are useless at this point in the game since there is no reason to go against the wind or any faster than the wind since the islands are randomly generated) and i never had the wind shift on me.

I seem to find the island with pines when I go against the wind. I had wind shift on me when I didnt unlocked the steering wheel. Also, try not to use a steering wheel on this:

It also works if you have your sail pointing sideways. I find plenty of pine and bear islands without an engine and steering wheel. Just an FYI. In the end it's all down to personal choice anyway.

I'm sure the engine and steering wheel will become more vital in the next chapters of the story but for now you can take it or leave it.

Thats why I like this game, because you can go either way. Be it sail and shifting them or using steering wheel and engines. With Beehive update engines with biofuel will finally be useful.
I'm pretty sure when using an engine, and either going against the wind or perpendicular to it produces balboa, and balboa-like islands, more frequently. It's to encourage players to use their engines to more easily go against the wind, or in any random direction. The engines are there to allow you to no longer just "go with the flow".
