Does the sharkbait not last as long or is it just me?
Title.

I seem to recall the sharkbait lasting a minute or two (or more maybe) now it seems to last only like 30 seconds.

I would much prefer something that simply repells the shark from the area for like 5 minutes at a time.

Sure, make it "super" expensive if you must, but having the shark bite you every 10 seconds is retarded.

Throw the bait next to the raft, kill the shark, and you have 5 minutes
(Sure this needs over a half hour to kill the shark)

With flippers you can (sometimes) dodge the shark in the water and spear it as it goes by. With a few buddies and metal spears you can inflict significant damage pretty quickly this way. Alternatively you can somehow draw and shoot the bow in the water to drive the shark away at some range.

Edit: But to address the original question, I don't think the bait is shorter.

Yeah, my wife and I stopped playing the game because of shark. Not scary, just annoying.

The more expensive and increased duration area shark repellant thing is a good place to start.

The shark also bites way too often, it's like he's trying to cut back on calories and is nibbling on one breadstick...

He also attacks the raft way too often, and you need to fix the attacking the middle of the raft thing too.

More effective and expensive bait sounds nice.
Like a huge ball of Fish the shark is stuffed for 7 Minutes
Can cost 20 Fish

Cant say more about balance as i dont know what other enemys/challenges you want to implement

On hard mode leave the shark as it is now.

On normal mode after shark is killed 10 min before respawn of shark. Shark bait keeps shark busy for 5 min( 1 min eating bait 4 min for being full and not attacking). Shark as others mentioned should only attack edge of raft. Shark should not be able to attack through islands or other masses.

Easy mode shark should not attack raft at all till raft is of a certan size mybe 6x6 or 6 x4

Rare shark a extremly agressive shark (normal and above) lets call it the great white shark (itentified by it being all white). Apears after first tower discovery. Will continue to attack raft till is killed. Only damgeable by metal spear and had has more hit points. Yeilds twice the shark meat a special head for trophy and a mistery item. Another blue print comes to mind perhaps a radio reciever. Wich can be used to listen to utopia news or just play you own music from your pc.

However, I would suggest you could add a slider for min attack time. Were it would go 5m (default/etc) on left, and you drag it out to longer and longer until it gets to say 60m then just disables shark attack all together. Then everyone could be happy.

You can still even keep existing "presets", just give us an "advanced settings" where we could tweak things like sharks. This could even be expanded to things like hunger, etc. for and every could tweak to their own tastes.

maybe instead of "changing the shark" you could implement like a squid that rotates in each time the shark/squid dies. so when you kill a shark a squid spawns, the squid could attach to the bottom of the raft to destroy blocks, which would mean him destroying a block in the center is more feasible than the shark phasing through blocks to destroy yor farms. just a thought. it doesnt have to be a squid it could be a dolphin that knocks you of course or a crab that you have to fight on the deck of the ship who scurries away after a few hits. You know just some variety...

if you do a dolphin that knocks you off course you could make him a one hit, but he never stops pushing the raft until you attack him, and the game would only have to recognize that the raft was supposed to be on its original course so it doesnt spawn loot or islands in the same manner, causing players to want to attack the dolphin, and the crab would have to be a giant armor like enemy that would take WAYYY more hits to kill than the shark, and he randomly comes on your ship and destroys walls and farms and pillars and things until he gets into combat with the player.

and if you decide to do that, and you decide to do more than 2 enemies you could make it random so it would be like shark, shark, squid, shark, crab, crab, shark, shark, dolphin, pufferfish, pirates, shark... etc.
