Raft

Foundations
I know the world revolves around your original Raft. Literally everything is created and removed from the game depending on your original Raft, rather than your player. The evidence is pretty apparent when you lose your raft and are on an island only to have it disappear right from underneath you. While I can see the reason why this would have been a good idea originally, I also wonder why it can't just be the player, and for the player to be able to create multiple rafts. I suppose the main concern is "updating" the "machines" on the raft. However, this shouldn't really be a concern if, instead, the developers were to make those individual entities their own "updater," or at the very least make it so when they are finished they no longer need to be involved in the entities' "updater."

I believe many of us would like to stay on an island with not much concern for the original Raft we spawned on. Hell, many of us would like to build on the island itself. I hope to see this in a future update, that way if you lose your original raft you aren't stuck looking for it for the forseeable future. At this point, if you lose your original raft you have to make an entire new game.

This happened to me, but only because I made a horrible mistake leaving my raft for more than a few minutes while the shark ate at my anchor. I was diving, and soon realized it was gone forever. New world time.

The next part of this discussion is a bit of a spoiler, so don't read this if you haven't fully completed the game. You have been warned.

I know the world is flooded, and the reason most of the islands are very small is because the rest of it is under water. So it doesn't make much sense to stay at it for an extended period of time. However, I would still like to be able to build on it for the sake of immersion and temporarily while I dive to retrieve more and more materials. I know it may seem counter intuitive to leave some stuff on the island, but in reality anything I wanted I would take with me and the rest I would leave on the island.

That's really my only beef with the game at it's current state. Among other things, this is the only mechanic that caused me a bit of anger because I spent some hour and a half only to HAVE to restart my game.

Let me know what you guys think.

Did not say if multiplayer or single and easy/normal/hard. If you lose the raft, one option to restarting is to die and respawn on your raft. You will lose any carried items but I am told the stuff in storage will still be there.

As I understand it, your raft is "the center of the universe" not you. So It seems a major undertaking to allow you to stay on an island and make a new raft.

Not when you are in Hard mode. You need a friend to join and revive you, and I'm not about to do that. Also, it's not a major undertaking to allow you to make a new raft if you just "make the raft into the player." It sounds challenging, but in practice it's not hard. It may require some creativity to get around, but I'm sure the devs could do it. They've proven to me already that they're very capable by simply making the game.

Look OP, you sound like someone who wishes this game to turn out like other games which have the ability to live on the land which this game is not about at all.

Apparently you do not care about the vision this developer has for his game, and wish to turn it into Stranded Deep.

Stop whining OP, and play the game, and learn to play the game instead of asking the developer to hand you everything on a silver platter.

I really dislike people like you who wish to take a game, and turn it into like every other game out there.

Learn to play the game OP, and stop your childish whining.

That first post was much longer than it needed to be. Sure, I'm pretty verbose at times, but I do try to keep things from being TL:DR for most people.

First off, the game is called Raft, not Island. While there is something to be had for living on an island, and some games do explore that, this game isn't one of them; let alone in its current state.

Also, this is very early in development. Some features, like making a new raft, isn't on the table yet because more important things need to be done first. Don't take my word for that, the Dev team said that in regards to another feature.

While the game is pretty easy once you know what to do, there still needs to be some sting of loss when you do something wrong. Not watching your raft, while you know the shark is try to break pieces off, and having it rip off your anchor is on you.
(and trying to kill the shark, underwater, with the new bow, and trying recover all the arrows, and getting killed that way is the player's fault too... still kind of bitter about losing all my gear and loot)

Lastly, for spoilers, you can use
secret thing
tags.

It is pretty easy to think a game should go in a different direction, because the idea seems really neat at the time, but the Dev team likely knows better than to change gears and try to expand out into a different game mechanic they aren't ready for. Keeping focus on the plan and maintaining scope helps a lot in actually making a finished game.

It's verbose to explain things. If you don't take the time to read it, then don't comment.

My point isn't that I want everything given to me on a silver platter. I understand that the game is called "Raft" and not "Island" which is why I even said (under the spoilers portion) that I know the point isn't to be on the islands for a long time. I'm 100% okay without being able to build on the islands, it was just a suggestion.

As for the underlying issue, we still can't make a separate Raft. This is where I am currently displeased with the state of the game. No matter what, if your Raft disappears you must start a new game, ultimately wasting an hour and a half. I don't tend to build storage, personally, until I find it absolutely necessary, and that isn't until I am able to smelt and require metal and copper. If I was able to build a new Raft, I could have continued where I left off essentially.

That was the whole point of the post. To be able to build a raft if the one you spawn on disappears; a TL;DR, if you must.

I know from experience that if your message isn't read, it is useless. There are messages I don't comment on, along with many others that don't get commented by others, because they sometimes go into unnecessary details.

Now was a 'bottom line' that hard? :steamhappy:

But yeah, it would be kind of nice to remake a raft, especially early on; but it could still be pretty disheartening to have to start over again within the same save file if there was a decent amount of progress made on the last raft.

Right now, given what I know about how the raft system works, making a new raft just isn't practical. There is one, mobile, 'raft build grid' in the game and making another raft would mean either trashing the first one or putting in a function to allow for two or more raft grids.

Maybe that will be added in the future, but there is so much else the Dev team said they need to work on first before doing stuff like that.

In my view it makes sense that if you mess up somehow and lose the raft is game over, the game also provides you ways to avoid your anchor to be eaten
Seriously dude, the game is called "Raft" for a reason, when I wanna build on an island I play other games.

Thats why i play easy or normal and not hard mode!^^ It could be possible to craft an floating island that acts like a raft! So everybody would be happy. I would build an island for sure if it would be possible!

@MycroftCanadaNS:
I dont know the vision of the devs but it seems they are turning it into a game like every other survival game. I think everybody wants a personal experience with a game they was spending money on. I see no reason why it shoudnt be possible to visit sunken underwaterbuildings too.
