No loot in ocean???

So this has happened to me a couple times now. I would change direction of my sail (to get to a raft or island) and then there would literally be ZERO loot afterwards floating in the ocean. The last time this happened, I drifted for prob 15min without seeing anything. I ended up just exiting to main menu and relogging and then poof, loot is back.

This time however, I've tried doing that and still no loot. Maybe last time was just a coincidence...? But yea been drifting for ~20min to no loot floating in the ocean...

Is this intended? Bug?

It's intended that loot won't spawn unless you're going forward, so if you go backwards a ways it'll stop spawning for a bit until you progress back forward the space you went backwards.
However, since it doesn't save the position of debris, it should reset when you save and load.

when you sail through the ocean, items will stop spawning but if you raise your sail, you'll be able to get your items that float from the ocean. so yeah, raise that sail.
thats how i fixed it for me because i had the same thing happen to me

I ended up just changing the sail direction and that worked! Thanks to both of you

with the wind as the primary heading- try going NE or NW for a bit until you see the trash lane. Works for me every time. If you go primary left or primary right from the Wind's primary direction, it can be impossible to change the situation.

What I have noticed is that the loot spawns in the direction you drift but when you leave an island it's easy to lose your bearings. If you open your sail and head in a direction opposed to drift you'll not have and loot spawn. I've been turned around a few times after mining some islands and found myself heading the wrong dirrection. Stop using the sail and relog and you'll be heading the right dirrection again so loot will spawn.

all you got to do is roll up sail so you will start drifting foward then loot spawns. Or you can build the streamer and that will point you in the right direction.
