Other than that make sure the world is not single player or invite only. i.e....(friends can join)
Could it be a problem, that we use Family-Share-Option (because it's my wife), although we both bought the game in our own accounts?
I thought it should be the other way round.
I hope this helps others too.
And it seems like the host has to restart the whole game. It's not working, if he is in the game and creates the world after the guest is ready.
