How do I eat?

Don't even know where to start in the game. I die of hunger on the first day every time. I haven't seen a single thing to eat. How do you feed yourself right at the start? Thanks.

you can eat beets you get also you need a grill to get more out of the food. also potatos you can eat but gril it . you need wood and the hammer

OK great advice thanks all. I am wondering if there is a trick to throwing the hook, as mine seems to go about half the distance I see others throwing in videos.

There is a hook upgrade that can be thrown further.

The metal hook can be thrown further than the plastic hook can, that's probably what it is.

also if you throw it upwards you can get more distance (to a degree) if your aiming for something very far away a good idea is to aim above it around the point the horizon hits the bottom of the screen for maximum distance
