Raft
Massive FPS drops/lagg
I love this game, and i would under no circumstance call it a bad game, but as of right now there is a issue with multiplayer. If you are the Host of a world, when building you entirely freeze and run the game at a smooth 1-5 FPS at all times, while everyone else is (the other players who are in your world) are running the game at a decent 40 FPS. Me and my friends have swapped our map around, and done all sorts of testing, which person was the host, etc and we all end up with the exact same outcome.

I dont know if i'm allowed but here is a twitch clip of how our ingame multi player experience is as of right now.

Great game, please fix.

I have played with my friend with no issues. It depends on the host computer and internet.

Also how far away do your friends live? If they are in different countries then that can be a issue to which will cause lag and latency issues.

I too have found this an issue. In a 4+ player game host lags

Hi everyone,
I wanna ask if you get lag, how big is your raft build?

my friend and I was very smooth at the beginning. but we build bigger and bigger, now become lag and the plants wont grow up.

My raft is 30 x 30, my GPU is a 980Ti and I am hosting for 4 players. No lag whatsoever.

I will say that we have not built up much on the raft. It is big enough that everything we wanted to build is on the one level (5 Forges, multiple Sails, multiple eating/drinking stations, about 8 large chests for example). We do however have "boarding platforms" built on all 4 sides for accessing tall islands. Those are about 8 floors high.

I have had this issue since day 1. Not even in mp, but in sp.

This is the only game it happens in. I have a 1070. Still no fix. Such a great game, it's just a shame.

I concur with Kage here, I run a fairly competent system and every now and then, from 5 minutes up to 15 minutes or so, I must restart the game from main menu (or fully), it just tanks for no apparent reason and I don't even think it's a memory leak or anything.

My 1050Ti is half asleep at 50 to 60% usage and she's running cold, so is my CPU, it's barely over 25% usage on cores, the game just tanks and is not optimized yet... hopefully the devs can fix it soon. I do not think it has to do with lighting, it's entity related i believe but I have not been able to pin it down yet.

The developers are aware of the FPS issue and are working on a fix.

Please be so kind to head over to our Discord and post your specs in #raft-bugs or DM them to me, so we can track this down: https://discord.gg/raft :tinder:

Issue still exists as of October on a 6 floor cross-shaped raft of 36 x 36 we get massive fps drops, mostly in storms and at night. Builds up over time seems as though cache isn't emptying or game isn't unloading passed areas/items. Reduced number of torches helped slightly. Nvidia 1050Ti + i7-7700HQ + BT Infinity 2 = should have no issues -.-

Yes, that's definitely expected with that size of a raft. It's not something that will be fixed in the next good while as it's super hard to track down, and moving a huge raft takes a lot of performance.

30 fps on Creative with an identical raft build (20 fps in storms) - 11 fps on Hard with an item stream and an identical raft build (4 fps in storms)

It really seems to come down to size of the raft. When I first built my raft up to 17x30 there didn't seem to be a noticeable FPS drop. I then built a massive 14 story 9x9 lighthouse on there again without noticeable FPS drop. Then when I expanded the raft to 30x30 to allow for more building projects that's when it hit the insufferable lag making the game almost unplayable.
The fact that it didn't hit when building and finishing the lighthouse seems to suggest you can build vertically all you want as I sunk more parts into that than the 17x30 to 30x30 expansion

Yeah agree, though for me this game's totally unplayable now. It's a pity, we were all looking forward to the large islands but now we're all sitting out till it's optimised.

Having to destroy your raft that's survived 365 days because the developer got carried away adding stuff without optimising breaks the game for us

a workaround that gets really quick annoying to the point that i stop playing is to save/restart game when FPS drops hit, since on a fresh load even with huge raft there is no FPS issue, i am sure the problem lies somewhere else

Aye, screams memory leak though, almost like java where the RAM is used as a dumping ground until it's full. I suspect items and collisons are not being unloaded correctly

Sounds Very likely, i wish this could be looked into. Part of the Joy of playing as a Group for us is doing something insane and making huge structures in "Tough" survival games.
