Multiple rafts
Quick question, there is no way to have multiple rafts for each player in the game is there?

I thought it would be interesting to have a group of friends in a game each with their own rafts.

No that would require a server and I don't thing the game engine is set up at all to handle running two instances at once. As far as I can tell whole world is random gernarted as you float and its an endless sea, it just plops down a radar tower thing when you make the transpoder stuff. But I could be wrong eitehr way it only generates things in a set distance from the hosts raft, so I am postive its not intended at all for you to be on side of the world them on other especially since shark would kill you if you fell off long enough for it to leave you, not so sure what would happen if you deserted a player on an island and they didn't die though...

Everythig is spawned around the raft, when the raft got far enough away the island would despawn.

Yeah so we would need a dedicated server set up, and its not coded yet, so they would have to spend weeks to set up an alpha for it, it would be rough as hell then flesh it out as we go. Unless there is a dedicated server for this... Pretty sure the is not I think that was eco I was looking at and picked this isntead that some one was complaining about no linux server support...

I mentioned this before in my own thread.

And you could have a peer to peer server setup for such things, rather than expanding out the Host Client architecture.

Peer to Peer is still gonna need a lot of work added on to the engine and months of testing to get netcode and what not working. Basics sure easy, but if you don't want lag and 2k bugs it will take work to make it decent. I seen modders try the PtP system it works but my god is horrible and takes ages of work to adhoc it to the game.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either for that kind of set up. Just getting the tried and true Host-client system stable can be a chore sometimes, depending on what is being processed.

I'm mostly saying it would make sense to have peer to peer for fairly free roaming multiplayer experiences. Then again, I don't know how things will develop and if that idea will still be plausible after more stuff is added.
