Stop pretending nobody cares, the people who don't care at the character at all are usually the same kind people that can't dress irl
I love it. BUT I agree Customization is a great thing to have. and Pretty much everyone likes it.
If there is no Customization. Those who don't care are like whatever. Those who DO care are just SAD. I am Sad. This Multiplayer game is actually Amazing for Streaming with friends. And I REALLY hope adding Customization to the character will come it. Can you imagine floating up to a half sunk pirate ship? Exploring it Finding treasure. And then a freakin Pirates Hat? and coat? Or Eye patches or bandanna's. OR A HOOK HAND THAT LETS YOU CLIMB UP THE SIDE OF AN ISLAND? Obviously a rare find super rare but like. Those rare occurrences and special rewards that you can show of on your body is fun.
Also What about crafting a Mirror or something that just lets you cycle through Hair cuts that you can find(Like cooking recipies). Then use the mirror with flower dye and colour your hair?
I don't think it would be that hard to allow even colour customization to Start with though. You cant even choose skin colour or Hair color or Outfit colour? I feel like that would be better then nothing and simple enough to do as a starting character.
Some people said that in single player you don't even see yourself. Which is true but. in multiplayer...ALL YOU SEE is the other People. Also Let me Point out. (In games like Overwatch. You dont see yourself either yet people play the crap out of it to Get skins) Customization in games is an essential aspect of game play.
I truly hope they update with customizing options. or making game content like Hair cut designs to collect and using flower dyes to change colours. I know base game is still in the Works. There ARE bugs I've already noticed like Throwing things to my partner and they don't see it...etc and I know those take priority but still. This game is pretty closing to being the Pirate base building treasure hunting -customizable game I always dreamed of.
This would take time to create all the artwork for all the *new* characters, write all the code to *tell* those new characters what to *do*, more code for all the customizations etc. Which as stated would take time away from coding and stabilizing the core of the game.
This isn't to say it's not possible but at the moment it's not considerd a high priority for the game. I'm sure it's something they have planned but don't expect to see it anytime soon.
Plus i already stated I KNOW customization isnt top priority to them. and my point is They SHOULD be thinking about it too. After thier core game is perfected. They shold go into it.
I never said anything about *rewriting* code and true they can use the existing code from the current 2 characters. But even if they copy/paste code they still have to assign it to a certain character else it would try calling a line which might not exist. I also never said anything about them *not* being able to do is.
Just give it some time and I'm sure it will get added.
I dont think Anyone is spoiled here. I think As it is an early access game, People are 100% allowed to funnel thier input and opinions into the forums. I mean As developers, if like everyone is wanting the same things or mentioning things that could be good for the game then Feedback is a good thing wether its Positive or Negative.
the depth of customization doesn't really need to be crazy.. change shirt color, etc.. I suppose they could go that direction naturally as they develop survival aspects..
it's funny to think that this forum is somehow distracting devs from what they were doing and we need forum warriors to stand up to neg the idea to save the devs.
Character creater become an important thing since the first rpg's of the 80's and in the 90'-2000's these game increased and the technology improved so nowaday you can make almost full realistic or full fantasy characters if you wish. Most of the time this one feature is more important than the rest of the game in this case I consider it as a medium priority because there needs fixes on other part of the game but later on needs the option to make your character which gives the immersion.
I personally not wish to buy the game and help this case because I have plenty of survival games already and they collect the dust nowadays since playing warframe. For example the Kenshi have a limited but fun charcter customization so if you guys consider an old game can have this feature then a new game should have at least a limited one.
I just see too many good game idea but never seen a properly made customization. Some game have but lack in story or gameplay others good in the gameplay and story but lack of customizations.
Noone combine these things into one game and I am just seen a very few game which somehow managed all of these but not properly. I hope later you guys add this option to the game anyway I wish good luck for developing the game and reach more success than some others.
They already have a base model for male and female. Swapping out hair, skin tones, and some slight facial changes based on presets is not time consuming.
If they were a studio based in say, South America or India, I could understand their initial default designs as its regionally appropriate based on their own view of themselves, however this game is developed in Sweden.
Thus their resistance to be "inclusive" to a variety, if not more euro-generic looking characters, seems more ideological (pandering) than it does a natural non-prioritizing of simple features. I mean hell they don't even need to add assets, just quickly code a slider that changes the values for skin and hair to cheaply give the illusion of variety.
Stockholm syndrome and the chase for social capital I suppose.
