Raft

Does the wind EVER! change direction?
theres an island exactly against the wind direction, and I have no paddle left, but got a sail set to go that way.
Its been 8 game days, even went to main menu and back, but the wind has not changed at all.

even tried going to the sides as a zig zag, but that is not working either.

There is only one direction of the wind.
All works upon your raft's orientation and sail position,
or else,
everyone will have trouble rotating or drifting just to suit the winds.

Use the sail, collision and small wind flag to always position orientation in Forward winds.

so the wind in the game ALWAYS goes in the same direction endlessly?

Whats the point of the direction meter thing then? as its obvious which way its going if you just watch the raft for a few seconds.

Because you can change the direction of the raft using the sail, finding the best orientation is necessary if you want faster transport after going off course to get an island/destroyed raft.

ya but notice how i said in the original post, how, i had the sail facing where i wanted to go, but it also happened to be exactly opposite the direction of the flag marker.

I waited several game days, even logged in and out, and it changed direction.

Since then, I have been watching it, and its been over 100 days, and my wind marker flag, has yet to change the direction its pointing.

so i guess theres some magic voodoo going on that makes the wind always flow on a fixed line.

but i guess it makes sense for how they have the POI's.

with it working like this, you will never return to a island you already touched down on, making it kinda like an infinate runner type game

Its so stupid that the wind never changes, because I can NOT turn my raft around.......
Its so unrealistic and nonsense, why does the wind naver change its driection ????
No changing wind direction and no possibility to turn around the raft is a reason to get my money back from Steam !!!!!
+ The developer does not give any update since 2 years .....what a shame

The alternative is if the wind changes you end up in place because your sail suddenly faces opposite the wind. With a sail facing opposite the wind a paddle can get you roughly 180 meters if i recall correctly.

same case if the wind keep changing you mind end up moving in a circle with the raft, also you have to change that current and wind are two different direction and we might end up with something really frustrating.

Wind and current having the "opposite" direction is ok as it is if you ask me.

If there is a island you want to visit always have a paddle ina box. I once ended up paddling 800 meters backwards because i had missed a big island while i was distracted with making an indoor garden.

If you are at the start of the game - don't worry you will come across lots of islands.

The turning the raft around is another story and its seems the devs are considering it.

Not sure if you're a troll, but a simple click on the news tab would show there has been updates in the past two years.

What would changing wind currents bring to the game?
Besides being sent to already looted areas where there is nothing to grab.

It's fairly realistic that wind does not change direction in the game. There are major currents and winds on the ocean that have not changed in centuries except minor speed and direction (like a few compass degrees at most) Try tacking into the wind to go back, it's a real actual factual technique, and if physics aren't broken completely in the game it will work. You can even do it in wind waker.

The wind changed at least once for me. I had all my nets on the one side, but realised at some point I was going the other way, I had to detach all of them and put on opposite side!

You must have bumped into an island and/or an abandoned raft.

Probably not needed. I placed collector nets at the front of my raft to start with, and somehow managed to get my raft turned around (use paddle while brushing past an island). my collectors were now at the rear of my raft, but they still collect, so leave them there. I now infact have my collectors mid way across my raft, they still collect and you can walk over them without falling in so all good!!

I've discovered that the sail is effective as long as you are not directly against the wind. Using the new steering wheel, I've turned my raft so that the sail is facing the direction I need while at the same time the wind is not 100% against the sail.

You know you can rotate the sail right ? It will accomplish pretty much the same.

the second story island for me is bugged, the wind is opposite of the direction I have to go.

The above discussion is ' old ', days before the 1st Chapter is even added to the game. Opposing Wind starts to appear when those newly Story related island is triggered.

You aren't bugged, just
way pass the mark for purely using sail for the destination or triggered the opposing wind.
Since you could search an old post out, could try searching more about keywords
' Streamer ', ' Paddle ' ' Opposing wind ', engine, ' Can't Get to ' .....
