@Developers Illegal copy "Survive on Raft" ?
Hi there,

please pay attention to the following game. It seems to be an illegal copy of yours. I of course have no clue if it is so, but in your interest you may have a look.
Thanks

Well Raft proper has been in development for over 2 years. Not sure when the ftp mobile clone came about, but the mobile market is full of stolen ideas and clone games.

Would not surprise me at all if someone noticed raft getting attention and pumped out a similar game as fast as they could. They even named the game so similar as to cause Google/ YouTube searches to overlap with both titles showing up.

The original Raft prototype was released for free on itch.io on 19th of December, 2016 (it's still available there for anyone interested: https://raft.itch.io/raft). It became so popular that the developers (who were still university students at the time) decided to make it into commercial game so they refined the prototype and released it on Steam.

History of Raft: https://www.raft-game.com/presskit.html

Unfortunately with popularity came dozens of copycats. Most of them have stayed on Google Play store. Currently I'm aware of two clones on Steam: Survive on Raft and Ocean Nomad: Survival on Raft. Feature wise they're closer to the original Raft prototype than the Steam version of Raft.

The developers are aware of them but either they can't or decided it not being worth to sue them (legal battles are long and costly).

Why did you revive this thread to add nothing new?

He did not. He made a new topic about it and I decided to merge it into this one like all the previous ones. It's because pretty much everything that can be said about the clone has already been said in this topic and one topic about this is quite enough.

WTH is wrong with Steam? Raft knockoff
so there is a game on Steam called survive the raft. I can't stand people who try to make money off blatant knockoffs ! What the hell is wrong with steam for allowing this? Does Steam not care anything at all except making money? How come the Raft developers have not demanded this game be taken down?

No choice is not good. I hate having to look at 10,000 different types of toothpaste when I go down that aisle

you should consider complaining to steam about copyright
Theres another game that is exactly the same except for different graphics, literally this game is a complete copy of raft, you should seriously consider complaining to steam for copyright.

this is the game

wasn't this game actually on a mobile platform before 'raft' came out?

Do remember that Raft was originally released on itch.io on 16th of December 2016. Google Play does not list original release date for games so best I can find is first review for the mobile version of Survival on Raft was posted on 27th of May 2018 so I assume it was released sometimes during May of 2018.

No surprise the devs of Survive on Raft seem to be churning out all kinds of shovel ware.. Pretty ugly tho how they flaunt it around for a quick cash grab. Even worse on their own forums they made a sub forum for people questioning the legal and moral ramifications of the game....

I really hope they fall down an up moving escalator then land on a pile of legos :\

Sadly that's just a drop in the ocean of garbage games floating into Steam from all direction.Unfortunately Steam is unlikely to take the problem seriously until the numbers reach a critical point and the flood starts erode Steams bottom line. Unfortunately many promising Indies will end up becoming casualties of Valve's negligence, their changes to shine buried by the overflowing garbage.

It should only take 1-2 legitimate lawsuits covering the trafficking of illegal software to get them to review how they screen games for the store. Unfortunately most developers probably figure their titles would be removed from the store (if they sued Valve) as a result, so no one's really taken the plunge.

A bit like a used car dealership selling boosted cars - they aren't going to stop until the law comes knocking.

Copy cat of this game
DEVS I am not sure if you are aware of this but a game on Steam has completely copy your game and you should go after them. Here is the link to it for your review: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1094000/Survive_on_Raft/
