The world has gone to hell and we are just trowing spent batteries overboard...
Question is HOW they choose to do it. They could either do it liken Minecraft, where a single diamond repairs 33% of a pickaxe (since 3 are requires to build it) - so in this case maybe recharging with one copper? Only speculation at this point, though.

The devs have stated that they intend to do something about recharging the batteries. What exactly - not sure.
