Raft

Is there a way to get bolts besides abandoned rafts?
A lot of crafting recipes use it and it seems like it's too common of a material to be only found that way.

you can craft them from an iron ingot too. Find iron ore on the sides of the underwater rocks of the islands and smelt it into ingots in the furnace - you need to research the smelter and such though.

Mate you need to dive and search for iron in the deep water around the island and to do that you need flippers and to make them you need 11 seaweed and one furnace.

Throw a shark bait and you got time to take two maks air dive ( without any airthank ) If you kill the shark then make sure you doing it on the clear day and now you throw one shark bait and jump out in the sea.
At this time you got 3 minute before the shark spawn back and here is the time you should use airthank and take those very deep dive.
By the way use timer to keep track on those 3 precious minute you got.

-- Hint : You may avoid to dive on stormy days because it hard sometime to enter the raft and foggy days give low visibility down in the ocean.
Night time works very well to take those shallow dive and all item is highlighted and keep in mind you gonna need a lot of wood to camp on a island some few days.

-- The shark gonna attack your raft every 3 - 4 - 5 minute so stay ready for him and after one raft attack you got 3 minute to fish shark bait and doing other stuff as looking for raft damage and keep in mind those small fish you need to save to make a lot of shark bait.

-- If you die you gonna lose all item in your inventory so then make sure you have a storage chest with food and water + equipment and you gonna need one bed to spawn on.

-- You can always start a new game and jump out straight away and let the shark attack you and know you know how it feels and how much damage it take before you are dead, i did that some few time and it work very well.

You definitely need flippers all the time in this game and by the way some of the island you don`t even reach down and search with flippers and now you need air tank + flippers.

Matei try to i clean every island 100% with seaweed and definity iron before i drive and to do that i need a lot of shark bait and i also need to kill that shark on a clear nice day 2 -3 time and now i got 3 minute to take those very deep dive .

Almost every island give around 15 - 20 iron mate and some of them up to 30 iron and more if you know where to search.

When i start the game my main goal is to track seaweed and make flipper then iron and now i can armour up my huge raft and that take a long long time mate and yes you need flipper and everyone else mate.

Dive without flipper in this game is like ride to the moon mate.

-- Hint : To clean a island for iron you need a lot of wood and shark bait - to save wood i eat vegetable soup + 5 boiled potatoes.
Iron fishing rode give you around 5 time more fish than a ordinary fishing rod and this way i save rope and as you know rope i need to make shark bait and ordinary fishing rod who again give me more small fish than a iron fishing road each 10 fish you catch.

Wood is not any issue further out in the game but i am always short on rope - more rop i got then more fishing rod i can make - more shark bait i can make more dive i can do - more dive i can do then faster i can clean the island for iron - with iron i can make my raft safe.

To catch all loot inn the sea you need a raft around 40 tiles ( minimum 30 ) and turn your raft against those floating item .

Many time the shark destroy my fishing net and now i lose rope and it is nothing i can do about it because i always expand my raft when i got iron to armour it up and as you know when we remove the collection net we lose the armour on it so that is the reason why i don`t wanna place armour on my collection net before my raft have the right size.

-- The devs have doing a great work with balanced item in this game and in fact it is a strategy we can use to save item here and there and this way we can optimize the use of item on a right way.

I wish the devs make a mechanics where we can keep the iron armour on the fishing net / collection net when we remove it and the lantern light sight need to increase sight from 17 tiles to at least 30 tiles and this way we can track the shark on a night time on a huge raft and we can enjoy the sight of the raft at the night time as well not only 16 - 17 tiles each direction but all the way.

Have a nice day mate and sorry my english.

In all fairness flippers + oxygen mask are 100% needed only if you go for a full clean of an islands. At this point i go only for metal + scraps and ignore everything else, so at times i don't bother getting my flippers + mask on. I prefer the armor pieces.

Why are you moving your fishing nets around ? Place them, armor them and forget about the shark. I personally have my nets in an "X" shape through my entire raft and i simply add new ones to the ends when i expand my raft. Also the minimum number of nets you need to catch everything is 28 in a straight line one next to each other. If you add more they catch nothing.

As for the lights - in the last dev blog they said they are fixing them. Hopefully they will make them a little bit brighter as well.
Symatrix Hill Sep 3, 2019 @ 8:55pm
I need those 3 minute after i kill the shark every time i gonna go deep for iron with oxygen and i can take 3 deep dive.
If i use bait i can do 1,5 dive with oxygen but that is waste of resources because the time is to short but i do it from time to time if i am almost finished with the iron search.

Other resources as secret chest - clay and scrap i use bait only and iron on the shallow.

-- Asking me why i need to move my fishing net is pretty stupid mate because we all build different way depending on different strategy.

Well may i ask you : why waste time and runn around and collect resources in a X shape collection system around you raft between building and stuff when you can place 1 or two collection line on one or two side and pick up everything in a very short time ?

Of course if you not have anything else to do then it ok to run around in a X collection system all the time and collect stuff to drain time and that is what i am thinking no offend here mate.

As far i know with a X shape collection system you need to run in two direction and collect lot, basically if you stay in the midst then you collect item in three direction and i only do it in two direction in one line and by the way i make double collection net and this way i don`t need to empty them all the time and i never lose 1 item either with my system compares with your X shape system.

By the way i do not wanna build X shape collection system and i prefer the outer area on two side double collection line at least at this stage and later on 2,5

Here is one siden of my system where X is Collection net and O is foundation where i can place light on if it is needed :
From topp and down on line 5 ( O ) i gonna place wall with 3 storage cheast in high each wall.

With 40 tiles long i can turn my raft 25 degrade if needed and still collect everything and i move my net because i prioritize the length of the raft first and now i working with the width so my goal is 41 tile x 41 tile raft = 1600 iron + outer area with collection net + iron.

Because of that i try to be as effective as possible to collect iron as fast i can and i need a lot of bait and rope + killing that shark in the daylight one every clear day if i can.

By the way that shark i need to fight 6 time between the island and this way i kill him easy and fast at the first morning on the next island.

I have not start with body armour yet but maybe i should do it because that shark have one hit me two time ( with max health ) during those 400 day.

I had no intention of insulting you, i am sorry you took it that wah.

Each collection net can keep 10 pieces of floatsome, so double row of nets at least for me is enough.

As for number of nets side by side - as i mentioned above floatsome spawn in a 28 tile window and any more nets than that should catch nothing(last time i checked that was in april, but i don't think they changed that since) If you are going for a square net formation you need 28 at most in one row. You can check in the forum there are several threads with ppl confirming this.

I will give my X net formation in a 10x10 as anything bigger is merely and extension to it. Here it is:
XOOOOOOOOX
OXOOOOOOXO
OOXOOOOXOO
OOOXOOXOOO
OOOOXXOOOO
OOOOXXOOOO
OOOXOOXOOO
OOXOOOOXOO
OXOOOOOOXO
XOOOOOOOOX

This can be looked at as a double row collection net if the floatsome is moving from the front. The two significant bonuses to it are:
- Even if you are moving diagonally(45deg) with the sail it still works as a single row collection net.
- The second bonus is that more or less the the nets once placed there is no need to move them at all ever, once can just expand the corners to make the "X" bigger. That saves on foundation armor a bit :).

added bonus is the low number of nets - as you can see i have 20 collection nets for a 10x10 area.

This is a an old picture of my raft, the nets are surrounded with the yellow foundation tiles:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1766574306

As for taking longer to pick up content of the nets - yeah it takes sqrt(2) times longer or 1.41 times longer, but considering that it takes 10-15 seconds to collect the upper "V", not big of a deal tbh.

Personally i don't need more than a double row as i collect the nets frequently enough that i don't need more.

As for fighting the shark / collecting. I mostly skip the small islands (i am 400 days in) and use the radar to go from big island to big island as they have more of the resources i need. On the big islands there is no need to really kill the shark and/or bait it as i use the following trick:

1) "dock" near the big island where there is no collectibles underwater (each big islands has several such areas around it)
2) cross the islands to its far side
3) get in the water

End result is that the shark stays with the raft and i can get the underwater scrap/metal ore/chests without the shark hassling me.

Very creative and nice raft you have make there gog , good work mate :)

I have only work on the foundation so far and i have been on creative mode and try out some stuff but i have a issue with all this pillar who need to be on every second tile.
They really need to add some mainstay and this way we gonna get rid some of these pillar and open up the room.

Maybe i need to look up those big island , by the way how much iron do you find there on each big island and how many big island have you been on so far ?

The big islands unlock once you visit visit the white board in the radio station. After that you can use the radar to show you the big islands are so you can sail to them.

Depending on the island(there are 4 big islands layouts i think) you can get 2-3 stacks of scrap and 1-2 stacks of metal ore from the big islands. Plus there are 3 to 5(4) chests/boxes on/around each big island. And of course tons of trees to cut, fruits, berry bushes, mushrooms, dirt and animals on the islands itself + lots of clay, sand and seeweed in the shallows around the islands.

if you dislike the pillars you can use walls - they act as pillars and are a bit "prettier", also walls + sloped tiles + roof tiles can make a nice sloped roof without the need for pillars at all .

4 ways:

1) From a crate on another Raft
2) From the crates located in the very deep water at islands
3) From the crates located at the highest point on islands
4) Craft them yourself (requires Metal Ingot, so you'll need a Forge)
