I got it... I used a couple dilophosaurus... That darn raptor kept breaking loose I'm guessing he didn't like being alone but I got all the rep done on that island time to move on to isla tacano.

You need to keep at least 2 of them yes. if you modify them use Dilos to raise their combat rating fast.

Get the strongest enemy that's slightly weaker than the dinosaur you want to win. I kept feeding my buffed up Giganotosaurus weaker Spinosaurs and such so that I could get it's rating all the way to 5000. If your dinosaur is suitably strong enough it will consistently survive and heal in time for a next fight.
