After leaving the hatchery, an animal can gain further ratings by killing other animals.
So, a Veloceraptor with base rating of 100 would kill an Edmontosaurus with base rating of 60. Upon getting the kill, the Veloceraptor gains 30 (so 50% of the killed animals rating) combat rating, which adds to a total of 130 rating.
Obviously, the more expensive an animal and the more modifications slapped on, the higher the rating.
