Edit: One thing I have to add.
Only Dinosaur species capable of contesting leadership have an Alpha.
So all the Dinosaur species that don't have a combat animation don't have Alpha's but will still herd.
Alphas are basically pack leaders and usually defined by the highest dino rating in their group.
They're kinda like magnets for others of their species who will tend to follow them around or stay reasonably close to them like herds are supposed to be.
It's a good counter for old large pen problems where social dinosaurs would aimlessly wander off and end up far enough away from the rest they'd get lonely and stressed out XD
