So just continue adding dinosaurs, put in species that work well together, plan your enclosures, and everything will be fine.
I can understand this. But i'm on Jurassic difficulty.. and i'm getting stone-walled.
The increasing demand of variety and it's penalty makes it very hard (and impossible) to reach higher ratings of dinosaurs. It's been increasing with how many dinos i've in my park.. I can't research new ones, as I've not been able to break the record yet.
At least I was able to reach 4.3 stars there, but I was at 11.5 hrs playtime and deleted the save as I thought you need to reach the par time for unlocking the skin.
Anyways I hadn't enough money to continue there (selling some buildings for another enclosure wasn't enough), as my existing enclosures where totally full.
In my current play (9 hrs on the record) I put a lot OCD into room management.
Currently being on 3.5 stars with 8 empty enclosures left (I pre-built them).
As soon as I have completed the reasearch on new species, I'm gonna put them in hoping it will be enough.
I've currently some nice species management going on.
One enclosure for Trike family.
One enclosure for the Anky family.
One enclosure for the Stego family (except that I haven't the Stego unlocked right now. Hopefully they will be happy joining their relatives later).
One for the Pachy family.
One for the Gallimi family.
The sauropods are an exception as I put them into a big enclosure together with one big carnivore and some smaller carnivores.
I've 2 of these enclosures as one has too less room to make a good balance between forest and grasland for some of the sauropods.
Camarasaurs and Brachiosaurus for example didn't like my T-Rex enclosure as it had too less forest and adding more forest would result in my T-Rex freaking out. XD
So I simply left the Diplodocus with him as they are fine with the current setting.
The Brachios and Camaras now reside in a bigger one with lots of room and enough forest for their taste.
The only thing which bugs me right now on that save is the 4.2 facility rating. oO
Guess I'll need more room for hotels and snack stores. :/
ohh one tip.. Save the game alot. if a storm is comming, save the game and wait storm.. 2mutch damage? reload save game.. and storm is diffrent every time you load. xD

I only did contracts, when I was in dire need of money, but mostly ignored the quest as long as they didn't fulfill themselves (timed quests).
As I said, I am not coming back to it, but luckily I didn't had to meet the par time, to unlock the skins and I never will. :P
Now I go back to unlimited feeder, immortal dinosaurs and a happy facility.
Even though I am a bit in awe about my challenge park.
Guess I try to rebuilt in under more "human" circumstances. :P
I'll threw away any masochism and get back to a chilling park.
Restart, you fail the par time xDDDD im almost there when i finish in par time i make a screenshot... but its so hard, love it xD
Modifying dinos helps combat the variety issues.
@OP.
You big dummy.
How did you get the variety down to ZERO by separating the family types? I just separated the triceraptops from the edmontosaurus and so on (struthiomimus), variety penalty still taking 3/4 of the ranking.
I honestly think variety penalty is a dumb number that shouldn't exit: I want to see diferent dinos together, not family separated. It's ♥♥♥♥. I'm free to do what I like, but if what you do works to get variety penalty down to zero, then this game lacks of depth really.
If I'd create a big enclosure with many herbivores families, then they should stick together depending the family number. I shouldn't have to create different enclosures just for the sake of saying "hey! look at the different dinos!". They are already different!
What the heck are you saying? Variety doesn't care about the way you place your dinosaurs, it only cares about the number of species.
i dont know how to post screenshots here but i have them on my profile xD

We're all here for the gaming. ;)
Try to achieve every star in 2hrs, more or less as you progress later in the game (not more than 2.5 hrs/star otherwise you're screwed), easier at beginning to get 1st star as you only need mostly the starter dinos and can skip the ceratosaurus if you want to spare money. Also, you don't need much the Research Center building before you get a good base of income, slightly before getting 1st star, then do the most important research.
About 7 struthiomimus, 2 or 3 triceratops, 2 - 4 edmontosaurus, all in same enclosure with +/- 99% visibility and stores close around viewing platforms should get you 1st star quick. Also, maybe 1 more small enclosure for the dracorex if a push is needed (and some others later).
1st star: 1 big enclosure for the first stegosaurid species and hadrosaurids (put them first with many struthiomimus) then get 1 good ceratosaurus in there that will feed mostly on small dinos and few times having fights with bigger ones. This should last until the end, just keep sending struthiomimus so the ceratosaurus get combat infamy bonuses and at times incubate another stegosaurid dino so they keep happiness (or hadrosaurid)
1 enclosure for 2 dilophosaurus and sinoceratops (3), add 1 or 2 ankylosaurus.
1 double (or tripple) guarded enclosure for the baryonyx, add 2 raptors (3 more later) - raptors can go first, but they are very impatient in bad weather.
This was more or less my start.
