I had to keep a veloceraptor uncomfortable for 3 minutes for a mission. I just put it inside a corridor and just lined the place with various fences in triangles containing triangles. Safe to say, the moment it started breaking down the wall I send the ACU to tranq it. It never got out.
Then some stupid Parasaurolophus (they do look ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cute in game) broke out because they need 4 of 'm and they kept dying on me.
Theres an even easier way to keep it in the pen that is drive a jeep and keep darting it. Each dart hit puts it in panik mode for a short duration = wont attack wall.
You need double or maybe tripple fence as it seems breaking a piece of fence calms them down.
-Raptors - Always have no less than 2 regardless of any mission or contract. Incubate 2 and then release both at the same time. Not sure about dilos off the top of my head.
-Weather - Storm coming in? Tranq them all!
-Traits - Certain traits automatically cause them to want to break out. Watch your DNA alterations.
If your carnos are constantly wanting to break out, then you're missing 'something'. The only carnos that I ever had break out were specifically for a few achievements and Ingen entries. I even kept missions from breaking out (had to watch them though).
1. They like to have buddies. It sounds crazy. "In order to keep your raptors from escapeing, make more raptors." Raptors are social animals and freak out really quickly if you don't give them friends. 2 velociraptors keeps them happy for a time, but you will want to give them at least 1 more in case one dies. I find that four is the safest number to stay at.
2. They want food, lots of food. Make sure they have at least two feeders and maybe one live bait feeder, because then they are happy cause they get to kill things. If there are too many animals eating out of one feeder, it gets crowded and other dinosaurs can't eat. This makes them grouchy, and they break out.
3. Keep them very secure. Storms still make velociraptors grouchy. It stresses them out more than any other dinosaur (I think.) I like to keep at least 3 layers of fencing around my velociraptor cages to make it so if they break through one, they have to get through two more.
4. Dinosaurs can only break through fences when there are fences there. That is why, you line the fences with as many viewing structures as possible. This serves two purposes, you velociraptors have a harder time escaping, and you guests get to see more dinosaurs.
5. Build fences up against the boundry of the buildable area, this makes it so if they break out through there, they can't really go any where.
Tip: Create a fenced off section of the park. Then build the cage in that area. Build as many security shelters as possible, and have the only way into the section be a monorail. Have an ACU center there, and a ranger station. Have it have its own little power network, detached from the rest. This makes it so when raptors break out, you can lockdown the area and activate all security shelters in the area. People flood into them, you send in an ACU chopper to knock 'em out, fix the fences, transport the velociraptors back into their pen. Prosper.
- Double Fences can be helpful in cicrumstances where fences are exposed to escape routes, like between view ports and/or the hachery and the view ports.
During storm warnings and/or storms:
- During storm warnings, try to hatch a few herbis like Struths for the Raptors and the like to hunt. They can only perform one action at a time, and if they are hunting, they are not breaking fences. Same with refilling the goat feeders (unmodified struths are actually cheaper).
- You can send ACU to tranq the small carnis when you get a storm warning, then revive them after the storm. Make sure they are not sharing a pen with a large carni though, or tranq that one first, because it will kill the KOed small ones if you don't. You don't have a lot of time after a storm warning to hit them all, depending on how many you have, so it might help to control the chopper yourself if you're confident in your shot.
- Park a jeep in between the exposed fences and the small carnis (inside their pen). They tend to not be able to attack fences through jeeps so they will flee and search for another spot to attack. Large carnis will still smash the fences through your jeep though. This is kind of a pain because you have to cycle through and "drive" the jeeps occasionally to prevent them from returning to base, but it not only helps prevent some dinos from attacking; you will also always have a jeep available to repair a fence instead of waiting for them to arrive.
