Help with building placement
Hey,

As the title says. Placing buildings is still kind of an irritating mystery to me. I know you can't build outside the building zone and too close to other buildings but I'm trying to figure out what the deal is where it just says "Obstructed". This occurs in spots where there aren't any buildings or pylons to get in the way so I assumed it was due to terrain features such as water or elevation. I tried flattening out areas I intended to build on in the hopes of solving the problem but that in itself is a mission. Its hard to actually get consistency in the flattening to create stable ground large enough, although I swear in some instances the ground is flat but it still doesn't allow me to build there.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to deal with this? Creating the right flat terrain. Is there something I'm missing? How do you go about creating space for your buildings? It does my head in because it seems so illogical to me when it wont let me build in adequate spaces but I can chuck a building down in the middle of a dense forest just fine.

Thanks

this was the final straw for me as well, i was trying to put a ranger unit in a space almost twice its size and it kept saying terrain issue, bloody insane...

i flaten the land to such a degree the pathways around that area looked shocking bad & still couldnt get the bloody building down... when you create a hill effect buildings require a large pretty substantial space from it

that and the combination of sheer lack of anything great in terms of mechanics was enough

anyway rage quit, and with that refund request sent in but i just passed the 2hr mark so now im waiting for answer.

Depends where you Flattening out the terrain from for one, if you go from the Fossil Centre flattening tool out from that it works well, add to that increase the flattening radius.

If you flatten towards Mountians you might get a naturel dip which you cant change, but your not allowed to build right up close to a Mountian side, fairly close but not snugg.. thiers a slight zone which has to be left, saying that you can put your pylons behind the buildings then to make things look nicer, instead of along the paths :-)

Removing Tree's helps to see the Terrain better as well, and lower Camera Angle.

You're probably trying to build too close to a road.

Thanks for the responses. You're talking about flattening out from the fossil centre, Cypher. Are you talking about the first island or does placing the fossil centre down create a default flat land across all the islands? I'm playing on the second island at the moment.

Didn't know you could be too close to roads. I'll test around with that tomorrow, Jonny but this obstruction Crap happens well away from roads too.

going out from any given building you wish to flatten out from as a base flatt basis I mean, took that as an example, and yes was refering to the first Island as an example, but its the same principal for anything so :-)

Some buildings are built of varied elevations so you have to see what you want and where to go out from.

Ahhh ok I get what you mean. Interesting. I'll definitely try that next time I play!

Don't worry about getting a little bit over the 2 hour mark; you'll still get it. That isn't set in stone as long as you are not much over it.

come on, the maps smaller enough already without making another two inch all round the edge un-usable, the land all around is flat, smooth beyond requirement and still cant place the thing down. crap i even gave up trying to put it where i wanted it and still cant do it.

Yeah that's basically what happens to me, Shane. Looks clear and flat to me. Dunno why you can't build there.
