How do you build your parks?
Since a lot of us may have come from Operation Genesis, how do you build your parks?

Do you segment your dinosaurs by species into different pens or do you try to create a herbivore pen with many different species in it?

I always segmented by species and sometimes combined 2 different dinosaur species into one pen if they historically were known to work together. It seems Evolution is trying to go for a more combined species style of play if the opening 20 minutes everyones been playing is to be believed.

Which is interesting since Operation Genesis always seperated the dinosaurs in the parks when playing mission mode.

my preferred park design in operation genisis was to enclose the guests in the fences and let the dinosaurs roam the island. I just had several small mini parks inside what was pretty much a nature reserve. Could never get the safari car not to die horribly, so relied mostly on balloons and lures.

What I found worked well in JPOG was 6 cages; for each "era", 2 cages, one for exclusively herbivores and one for a mix of herbivores and more carnivores. This would please the Dino Nerds for keeping the authenticity, the Fun Lovers for the safe veggie dinos and the Thrill Seekers would get to see some total carnage.

The issue I had was that by separating my visitor services (restaurants, gift shops etc) as the south end of the park, covered by a mountain range with a path through the middle to get to the animal enclosures, the guests would often complain about being hungry by the time they walked over there, or not having seen dinosaurs when they had got lost at the food kiosks.

Lesson learned; don't build your park like the park in the movie.

I hated this so much. "I paid to see dinosaurs and I haven't seen any!" When they've just been eating since exiting the visitor center; not bothering to venture away from the food to actually look at animals... :steamfacepalm:

Silly people. The dinosaurs aren't the attraction, the humans are.

All in one space baby. All in one space.

I'll be trying to balance out the three factions as best I can (may mod it so I don't lose any standing with anyone)

I saw someone building a second Hammond Creation Lab for their new enclosure and thought it was weird to have one per enclosure.

I would use the first pen with the Creeation Lab as a "holding pen" where new dinos are created. Then I would tranquilize them and move them to their designated pens.

One of the devs said this is how they do it also, I think it makes sense.

I would also keep Carnos in their own enclosure for each species, but mix up some herbys a little bit too where appropriate.

Also when I get around to having T-Rex and Raptors I would build them in slightly isolated areas of the park so that if they get out they still have a distance to cover before they get to my food and shopping area etc.

I do that sometimes, but it gets to be a pain when you need to tranquilize and move 5 raptors. I find it easier to just pump out the dinos in their proper pens as needed.

In the original it actually had you combining dinos quite a bit in later missions. And in freeplay it actually encouraged it. At first I always separate my carnivores, then put herbivores from similar regions together. Later in the game when I had enough money to waist I usually combined the dinos from similar regions. That's why all of my parks were 5* :P

Then sometimes I'd combine all my dinos into one pen just for fun... It was usually the same pen that I kept all of the guests in ;)

Had a few islands with only carnos... Once those parks reached 5* and I had my dino cap reached I'd delete the shelters and park entrance and then the fences... That was always fun. I actually had some people die from starvation because they got lost in the wilderness... Never had someone transplanted by a huge herbivore though... Hopefully that can happen in this game.

First I'll build enclosures, rich in space, vegetation and water. Then I'll build a great road network throughout the park, rendering every corner easily accessible. Finalize it with attractions and services, and ofcourse the Hammond Creation Labs.

All ready to give life to my first dinosaurs to visit the park. After all, those humans aren't going to feed themselves.

I will put the Jurassic herbivores and Cretaceous herbivores in seperate enclosures. My first park idea is Struthiomimus, Edmontosaurus and Styracosaurus in the starter enclosure seen in the demo, and then another enclosure of similar size in the open space near the dead end of the path, with paths and buildings built nearby the enlosure. In that enclosure will be two Acrocanthosaurs, which will get some privacy from a small mountain barrier and dense jungle in some parts of the enclosure so they don't get stressed out.
acro is not in the game

I'm probably gonna have a couple creation labs myself, each one on its own power grid of course. I'm curious if we can power something with multiple sources though so if one of my generators goes down, the other can still power the electric fences.

It's important to remember that guests require much more space than they did in JP:OG, but it looks like we can build everything on the main road then make them walk to see the good stuff as seen in IGN's Tacano reveal

one of the game play videos shows that builds pull power from closest power plant thats conected vea power lines.

I don't even remember I didn't like it much in JPOG. I had played the game for many years on and off but it wasn't long at all before I just went Site B every time.

Better idea (includes anti-JWE dinosaurs): the two larger enclosures from the previous idea, but with an early Cretaceous USA theme. The herbivore enclosure has Archaeornithomimus (replacement for Zephyrosaurus and "indeterminate ornithomimid" from Cloverly Formation), Tenontosaurus, Sauropelta, and Camarasaurus (replacement for Astrodon). The carnivore enclosure has a pair of Siats, which replaces the Acrocanthosaurs in the previous idea because there is actually a possibilty of them (1%-2%). In the enclosure with the Siats are also a pair of Deinonychus, who have their own territory in the large enclosure and sometimes scavenge from the leftovers of the Siats or hunt for themselves. Both enclosures have a badlands/desert/swamp theme, with some areas with no plants and some with a bunch of plants.
