Herbivores yes it seems likely. But in the movies thay used a few different techniques that have become famous so its to early to know if any alternative means will be included in the game.
The game isn't even out yet, so how can you discuss logistics?
But hey... let's think logically.
What is more expensive? To create a gallimimus or a goat... I'll let your own brain come to its own conclusion.
I'm certain that you can easily have more than enough income to pump out those guys as food. If not, you can sell fossils for more than $30,000. The real question here is what happens when the fossil digsites are all empty?
Edit: Sure maybe prices will change outside of dev build, but i don't think so. Also a base Ceratosaurus costs $870,000
Edit 2:
It appears income ticks in ever 10 seconds or so even when you are going thru menus. However, in the dev build even if your "profit per min" is in the negatives, it still ticks upwards.
Depending on the size of the paddock I would have cows/goats as food or have them be hunting for a more authentic approach.
It honestly depends on what you want to accomplish for that particular paddock.
I think I would make a big paddock with a mix of herv/carno dinos just to force confrontation between them. Like you said, herv dinos can eat from environment and carno could make real hunting, I saw in a dev video that dinos can get borred so that could be helpful. I dont know if by adding a observation tower to the paddock, visitors can get amusement by watching those hunting scenes.
Enyway, devs said that dinos breaking through the fences would be a main factor in the game, will happen a lot even if you want to prevent it. So I think that not matter if the dinos get borred or not :/
As Monty Python would put it, "Bring out your dead!".
If you need to clear the dead carcass that change everything indeed. But its not the same danger in "carno only" paddocks? I mean when they pass away.
I would imagine that the dinosaurs SHOULD eat the carcass, but none of the streamers got to play long enough to see that.
Mmmm gluten free Gallimimus
Sounds expensive
So they forget where the feeder is? Or they forget to have legs and start doing Magikarp splash?
I mentioned before maybe you can unlock a genome that has a 50% chance to let the dinosaur change their sex. Like in Jurassic Park where they used a specific frog DNA that allowed this to happen. Dispute it if you want but it is part of the JP lore and it isn't far-fetched. Eventually I want to build a self-sustaining eco-system where my guests can have tours through the nature reserve I created and get a real, thrilling experience of dinosaur behaviour and interactions.
