How to change the swapped car in "The Keys to The City"

I wanted to try and beat my PB and set a new one using different but at the half way point the game doesn't switch me to the car I want to use, it keeps using the one I used for my regular "for fun" races

At the event starting gate when inside the parking lot, there's a button below to change vehicle, you'll select all vehicles needed for the event.
