Mail icon in top left?
I have absolutely no idea what this is - literally a mail icon in the top left appeared day one, and I don't know what this is for - I've checked steam notifications (linked the ubisoft account I have to my steam account), checked ubisoft notifications, checked the in-game news and mailbox - nothing. Can someone help and tell me what this useless piece of ♥♥♥♥ this annoying (at best) icon means?

Is there a way to remove that icon from there?

Doesn't look like there is...
Seems we can only move it around the screen, which, to me, looks even worse in any other position than the default top-left - because then you have that out-of-place envelope just hanging around almost in the middle of the screen!

I got this game while it was at that deep discount, around the time of The Crew 1 shutdown 'controversy' and Ubisoft were trying to somehow get some 'good PR', and when I bought it at 98% off I was joking to some friends that "Finally it's at the price point I'm willing to pay for it lol", but in the couple of hours I've managed to play this game since the purchase, every time I get on it I'm just baffled by almost every aspect of it being either poorly implemented or straight up not been properly 'thought through'...
"The Story" is mediocre, the characters are cringe and 'one note' (as pretty much the whole 'vibe' of the game is), driving physics aren't really enjoyable - "functional" at best is how I'd describe them, UI (despite all of it's 'modern simplicity' aesthetics) is pretty confusing and unclear (case in point - that confusing envelope, that has people asking around on forums for how to get rid of it/at least understand what it even does!), add the live-service-loot-semi MMORPG-schlock to that and I really struggle to see what IS there to enjoy for that f*cking ONE DOLLAR I've spent on it... 🤔

i agree 100%, 1usd is all i was willing to pay for this game. not getting motorfest either. i stopped supporting ubi over 6 years ago, i had 1 straw too many.

their support is non-existing, they ALWAYS blame the customer. if you tell them that game is crashing, they instantly tell you to check your hardware and get better pc.

i had issue in R6 siege after update, mic didn't work anymore. they messed it up. i know it's not made by ubi, but they are managers and publishers, so when i click on SUPPORT, it takes me to ubi support.
i explained the issue and their answer was literally "this game is not made by us, we can't help" ... unEFFINGbelievable!
ubi is official publisher and manager, they collect the money from the game, but they provide 0 support, what's worse is that if you follow the support link from within the game, it will take you to ubi support!
even on their website, you had to choose r6 siege as the game you need help with and that's the answer you get ...

they have 0 professionalism, ubi is a joke. ran by greeders who only care for profits and nothing more.

i'm disappointed by crew 2 aswell, first one was better. i like the variation in 2nd one, but it's kiddified .. it's more like forza horizion where you just smash stuff for no reason ... all this bouncing around, flashing text and icons ... holy EFF is this kindergarden?
like in freeroam when you drive thru some speedtrap, you get that bouncing BOOO BOO BANG BANG WHEEE WEEE bar and music dancing right in middle of your screen! i can't even see where i'm driving!
why does it have to be so annoying? can't they just frikking make it just a small indicator on what speed you hit? why is all this kiddified bouncing necessary?

5usd is max price i would have paid for it and same for motorfest, if i can get it for 5usd or less, i'd buy it.

Guys, this is a thread about in-game chat icon, it's not for your rants. Create a new thread where you would leave all your negative feedback, leave a Steam review or something.

I've spent almost ~300 hours in Crew 2 already (not 4 hours like Kostiantyn Hlyz'), and I can say that it's so much better than Crew 1.

I had basic edition of Crew 1, and it was an average experience. You couldn't buy bikes, Drag, Drift, Monster and Cop cars, you couldn't play events related to those vehicles. You couldn't play weekly Summits. No community races for you either. It was like 2/3 of the game, may be even 1/2 if you didn't have Season Pass.

Meanwhile in Crew 2 everything is available to you even if you just spent $1. You can participate in all Summits and get Platinum without an issue. You can buy cars for all classes and participate in all events, including all PvP events. You can play community races people created to get some hobbies easier. And even if you don't have a car for an event right now, your crew mate can lend a car for you! This alone makes Crew 2 is a much, much better and enjoyable game than Crew 1.

And progression was significantly improved. There are lots of cheap, almost free or completely free cars that will allow you to get money faster. And you get more money and parts for doing racing events on the highest difficulty rather than doing skills, so at some point the end game doesn't become a boring, tedious Jump Skill simulator like Crew 1 did. Instead of jumping over and over to max out all your cars you're playing races and learn them for PvP and Summit events. There are also ways to improve part drops, and part sets.

And that's not the only things they improved. Like you can see a list of all missions, so it's enjoyable to replay the campaign in chronological order. You can pin awards/hobbies on your screen, so it's easier to track and complete them. And there are significantly less, almost none, completely annoying and grindy achievements/awards/hobbies in this game... it is a better game than Crew 1.

I would highly recommend to you to play Crew 1 (oh, yeah, you can't do that sadly) on 4K screen, and then Crew 2.

And you would realize that games Ubisoft released during PS4/XOne era had horrible UIs and fonts that people with hi-rez monitors or poor eye sight couldn't even see. You can't even see them on non 4K monitors like, let's say, 1280x720 or 1280x1024 monitors we have back then when those older games were released.

Those pop up award messages in Crew 1 were extremely tiny, I couldn't even read them on my old monitor. That in-game chat in Crew 1 was extremely annoying to use, because of horrible font with very tiny and narrow letters.

Meanwhile new Ubi games (including The Crew 2) mostly have bigger fonts, fonts that are less problematic to read, bigger UI elements that look great both on very old monitors and on new monitors. Because at some point Ubisoft started to listen to people managing sites for players with disabilities and using their guides. They started to make their games considering that there are people with bad eye sight, poor hearing, bad low rez monitors and TVs, etc, etc.

you say create a new topic .. and then you proceed to doing what you told others not to do ... FACEPALM 1000x

also crew and crew 2 are not made by ubi, they're made by ivory tower. ubi is just publishers and managers, they have nothing to do with development of the game.

Man, are you serious? Google about Ubisoft editorial team that reviews all Ubisoft projects and gives feedback to its studios. Read articles about that group, what they do, how they operate, etc. etc.

After you do all of that you would realize why so many Ubisoft games rely on similar design decisions, game mechanics, tropes. After that you would realize that both Crew 1 and Crew 2 were influenced by that editorial team as well,

That's the reason why Crew 1 had 'tower' mechanic from Assassin's Creed series, so to unlock events and races you have to find satellite dishes in the open world. You know which game had the same mechanic? Watch Dogs 1. Both games were criticized for that.

That's why Crew 2 has entire map opened from the beginning, there is no fog anymore, the entire map is white. You know which game went through exactly the same changes? Watch Dogs 2! You also have followers instead of XP to level up yourself in both games. You get the idea.

P.S: also speaking of facepalms, the next time you launch the game check how Ivory Tower's logo looks like, the old one even had 'A Ubisoft studio' subtitle.

by that reasoning the crew is actually Sony game.

are you serious? ANY developer, dev-team, studio that have Ubisoft as their publisher IS a Ubisoft studio. Just like they are on Xbox, PlayStation etc.

Games actually developed by Ubisoft are done under the Ubisoft-studioName.

What? By what reasoning? There is no Sony name on Ivory Tower's logo[fr.wikipedia.org]. There is Ubisoft name on it though. I'm pretty sure Ivory Tower didn't collaborate with Sony (i'm not even sure Sony has editorial team or smth like that) when they developed Crew games. But they collaborated with Ubisoft. At least check the first game credits[www.mobygames.com]. There are lots of Ubisoft people involved, including people on game design positions! That's why Crew 1 had Assassin's Creed 'towers'.

Ubisoft bought Ivory Tower without changing its name to Ubisoft Villeurbanne or something like that. The same happened with Massive Entertainment, a Ubisoft studio as well.
