I'll add an honest opinion and say TAB is better but with a potential for multiplayer and the more gothic fantasy aesthetic AoD has some pull for me personally. Both are good AoD needs more time for polish so pick it up while on sale. AoD also has a campaign but it is not finished. I'd say the game is about 75% complete and actively still being worked on
Conan Unconquered has multiplayer co-op. Might be the worst of the bunch but if you like Conan and TAB it's worth a shot. I'd watch some videos first to see if you like it. The devs have abandoned this one.
Sadly this genre is kind of a niche and I have been desperate for something to top TAB.
it is a few years old and i havent played in a while so i dont know what the community is like anymore but i thought it was a pretty good one. different in a lot of ways but still good.
but if you were looking for more of a direct analog then "diplomacy is not an option" is a good option (though id say not quite as good as they are billions but its still in development so it could clean up well)
Age of Darkness (direct clone that diverged into some Diablo-style heroics) just dropped two MAJOR updates (Dec and Jan). I've been waiting for the right time to get back into it, and this looks like that time. All their EA progress updates are here on Steam, so this is the right store for buying this one.
Alien Marauder is another TAB-clone, but... I don't know. Depends on whether or not you like Sci-Fi themes. Track it on both stores and see who comes in cheapest.
Albeit loading times are very long so best use an SSD.
It is very similiar to TAB but is more micro focused in mediaval dark fantasy.
And map clearing is harder but colony defence is much easier.
Hero system is basically Warcraft 3 minus the items and creeps.
3 different factions which are slightly different each has 2 unique units and 2 different hero types+core units+slightly different bonuses eg.range units deal more damage, faster melee etc.
But vast majority of the economy is almost same as TAB.
Campaign on the other hand is very similiar to Warcraft 3 campaign and is basically a good tutorial into survival mode slowly ramping up difficulty from baby mode RTS tutorial build x.buildings to like "veteran ish survival difficulty near the end.
But likely only around 15 hours long or so.
