Sad end.
Yesterday I've had a pretty intense game, almost got overrun 3 times but managed to stabilize by the skin of my teeth. Unfortunately it had a very disappointing end. When I sent my snipers north west to clear the area, my base was attacked by yet another mini wave. Except this time south mini wave was x5 times the size and it had that robot zombie, bunch of jumpers, etc. Obviously 1 ballista protected by a layer of double stone walls didn't stand a chance against that and snipers couldn't make it back in time to save me. Anyone knows what the hell happened there? :D

Hard to tell without seeing the game but it could be that your ballista alerted a doom town because ballistas arent silent. It can also be a mini horde (like those who spawn after wave 2) who created noise by banging on your walls and alerted the mutant, which alerted more zombies etc.

Things can escalate very quickly in this game, especially with mutants near your walls.

Try to avoid expanding towards mutant (you can see their position on the minimap like giants) until you have enough force to deal with them, like 20/30 snipers, because at the moment mutants are extremely unpredicable. I had a day 3 mutant in my base alerted from a screen away by the noise of ONE ranger, or later in the game by a single ballista. Whether mutants are alerted or not is currently heavily decided by rng so avoid them at all cost in the early game, that's all i can say^^

Good luck commander!

The thing is that ballista was there for quite some time and everything was fine until it suddenly wasn't. Yea rng can sometimes be depressing in this game. What you said about not expanding towards a mutant can't really be applied all the time, for example if you desperately need food, you have to expand to the fields. Mutant is there? Too bad but there is no other option.

Sniper army and a tank for them is easy to remove them. But two questions, how many mutants, so what was the difficulty and what time did this happen?

It happened at 40+ wave, it was map 4, hardest difficulty. Are you asking how many mutants were on the map or how many attacked? There was a lot of them on the map and during the attack it was only one.

I know all of that, i have played this game for 2 years, for a total of 600+ hours, and i know that you have to adapt to the map you're given every single time, at least on highest difficulties.

As i said it's hard to answer your question (what happened) without seeing the game but if i had to guess i'd say that leaving a single ballista was probably the mistake, if there is a mutant close to your walls, you should have at least 2/3 ballistas with double layer of walls and traps to deal with the rabble the mutant usually drags with him.

An even better solution is to attract it with your snipers, kill it and then move towards the location you want to clean, so this way you can deal with it on your own terms without having this Damocles sword above your head.

Again, i know there is a difference between theory and the reality of the map but that's just my 2 cents :)
The "robot zombie." Hmm I can't help think you mean the infected mutant. Those are a true PIA in TAB. It's a formidable unit in itself but the main problem is it's pulling a lot of it's friends with it when triggered. The main problem is there is no way to know when it's triggered. Rule of thumb: on the worst possible moment. And i think that sucks. I don't mind a very strong NPC unit but at least give it some form of predictability.
Hi!

The agro reduction and the modified behavion on the mutants upgrade is already in the Test Branch. Just in case you want to check how it's working now.

Thanks.
