infected mutants/behemoths have broken ai and it isnt even a meme
same old ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ people complained before me - im playing goddess of destiny on 800 and half my attempts get ruined by 2 soldiers spaced 5 tiles out pulling a mutant from east side, this happens at day 6 and i just dont have enough soldiers even if i kill him i cant possibly kill swarms he pulled

now i could just say "oh thats my bad guess theres too much noise even in this scenario"

then when i get 20 soldiers, 20 snipers , shocking tower backing them up and move HALF THE DISTANCE to him, constantly shooting my way down to him -

HE JUST DOESNT CARE - HE SITS ON HIS ASS DOING NOTHING AND I HAVE TO SEND A UNIT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HIM BECAUSE EVEN ABOUT 8 TILES AWAY HES TOO DEAF TO HEAR 8 SOLDIERS SHOOTING

i thought people are just salty cuz they cant manage noise but this is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like is there a rng coding that changes his detection every seed from being better than harpy to worse than decreipt zombie ??? is there some error in his codding ? hello ???

First off, I feel your pain. Sometimes I load a game and within seconds a mutant comes running into my colony. It can be frustrating. If you take a unit like a solider and park it in a single square, and leave it there without moving, the sound it makes as it takes out the occasional zombie will stack and stack until you start pulling mutants and harpies. Pull them back for a few hours or have them patrol so their shots don't all stack sound on the same square. Destroying buildings can trigger mutants too. Build your walls and your towers. Keep your snipers a couple of squares behind the wall until you have 8 of them, then put them in the towers and let their shots summon the mutant. Back them up with a Ballista.

Yeah this happens to me all the time while even 1 archer only like 15 squares pulled mutant once no joke. I have than 30 snipers and 3 balistas and he doesn't come but many times pulled by nothing. You have to expand to only place where and no mutants, in direction which are mutants it is impossible, because you would have to secure chokes for it to best efficient and that is already too forward! It is still random later in game, when you need mutants to come and can actually kill them they don't go, but many times get pulled by absolutely nothing, it is crazy!

I don't understand how they are doing it on videos, after day 20 i can't get ground fast enough. They make snipers after day 30 in lots of numbers. I Am stuck with 10 archers and balistas after day 20, don't have any food and it is not good to make snipers yet to start clearing as your income would be too low and you would get them too late anyways. There is always only 1 single place you can expland to. All others would be too hard to secure at 5-6 chokes from other sides, or there are 2 villages of doom etc. And you need to always wall in at chokes otherwise it will be too inefficient to defend... https://imgur.com/a/vjvsmHd So only logical place is upper west for me to go. But i already use repeatedly 1 archer and went as far as i could to pull zombies into 2 balistas and they still keep coming, i can't get this place like in video: https://youtu.be/hV4qOZkUhXw?t=2212 Hmm i think it is like day 25, but they got it 26 for me. But i can't clear it fast enough, they still coming. I don't know what i am doing wrong, i beaten 800% in past, but not 900%. Now i am stuck at 800% Just can't clear space after level 20 fast enough no matter what even with more than 10 archers and if go far enough i pull too much, and it takes still to much time even with traps and it is hard to put tesla forward to make more traps (which is not even as they do it in video and even pulling 1 archer to balistas like that, takes like 30 times before you can move in even a bit) as if you pull too much you lose them... Also problem this place has like 5 different chokes, but it is only pace i can go, it is so hard to wall of and it is so inefficient before you secure so small space, but they many times attack weakest point so you can't also risk it and holding it only with archers on ends, which would even hold second phase of expansion... I rewatched video many times, still don't know what i am doing wrong. I just can't get any more space even with 10+ archers, even with 20+ efficiently and balistas and spikes... They keep coming, it is level 30+ and i can't even get any more space... Really lost here...
I also don't understand how to build so neatly, i try to plan for market, bank and warehouse, but it is still pain in ass to cram all that many times i dont have space, or i dont have workers food and it really messed me up! Damn have already 4000 and i can't get anymore space, they keep coming i pulled fast movers 20 times and still cant move in to area to clean it from slow ones, they keep coming... Can't capture in-game but only place where are not mutants close at which point they are 100% pulled i can go, is already near edge and impossible to secure any cost efficiently... But others places literally mutants or village of doom, that is literally only place that i can go... There is always only 1 place where you can expand from my experience, except if mutants are far in corner!

Problem is: you should never expand towards edge, it is inefficient, but what if it is only place to go, because no mutants and villages of doom, you also need grass there or you are done!

Yeah, mutant RNG is a real pain, I've frequently had the hilarity of working towards a mutant I'm trying to kill with a 20+ soldier mob, and he ignores me, and some other mutant 20 squares further away from a different direction wakes up and charges my base, and only when my soldiers return to base to stop that one does the first one decide to wake up...

Overkill Overkill Overkill seems to be the only answer.

But also, I'm surprised OP is using soldiers at day 6? Rangers are really the way to go there. Three pairs of rangers does just about as much damage per second as two soldiers with half the noise. And that noise is spread out on three tiles instead of two, so the net is a much lower risk of mutant aggro.

You can guarantee that a mutant won't hear you, but you can never guarantee that they will hear you.

The problem with mutants is that the noise mechanic doesn't work well for them. It's designed to pull a steady stream of zombies. Let's take a simplified example.

You have a sniperball making noise. There are 600 infected who can hear them and each second each of those infected has a 5% chance of hearing you. What happens here is that each second you will pull roughly 30 infected. As you kill them, there will be less in the same range, but sound accumulates over time, so there will remain a steady stream of infected for a while.

This works fine when you're dealing with large numbers, in the scenario above, the chance that say you pull 200 infected at once is negligible. This is however not true with mutants, either you pull one or you don't. If we add a mutant to the above scenario and gives it a 5% chance of hearing you as well, you will not pull 5% of that mutant every second, you will pull either 100% or 0% of that mutant.

Let's go back to the scenario with 600 infected who each have a 5% chance of hearing you. Imagine that instead of the chance being applied to each infected separately, you have a 95% chance of pulling none of them and a 5% chance of pulling all of them. I think you realize what would happen of the noise mechanic works like that. Unfortunately, for mutants, this is more or less how it works.

Don't forget that when you get the "lucky" 5% and pull a mutant, he starts swinging away and pulls the 600 infected too. And three other mutants. It's a razor-thin edge between everything is going fine and your base is completely wrecked.

The only thing I've found that works reliably is rerolling the start until you get a reasonable amount of mutant-free territory to grow your economy in, then build a killbox that can handle a giant pile of zombies. It's not hard to do on 100 days, but definitely challenging at 80.
