are survival maps random?

people keep saying reload if you have a bad starting map. I wonder if there are like a set number of maps that you can cycle through or are they all random. Also, the frozen highland map, I remember there used to be a giant, only now its always a mutant.

1- yes all maps are procedurally generated now IN THEORY there is a set number as theres no such thing as true infinity but at that point we are getting in to semantics and it would take more than an entire lifetime of playing nothing but TAB to reach that point so in practice "Yes"

2- depends on your difficulty lower difficulties do not have giants and if you played before mutants were a thing as they were only added with 1.0 you may have never encountered them before
