Hunting and killing Mutants
In my latest survival game at max population and 100 days on caustic lands I succeeded in eliminating two mutants around day 30, and I thought I should share what I found works reasonably well. It's a relatively simple strategy, something you don't have to be a 900% expert to achieve.

The trick is recognizing how effective Ballistas are at clearing hordes. The 0.3 area effect doesn't sound like much, but in a densely packed mob pounding on your walls this can easily turn into 5 zombies killed per shot. That's comperable to the output of 8 soldiers for only 3 workers and 15 upkeep, a really nice deal.

So find a nearby mutant you want to kill, build a half dozen ballistas and a wall in front (stone works better than wood obviously but double wood should be viable), and set your ballistas to target most powerful. Send out a crew of a dozen rangers to clear the path for the mutant to attack you, then have them scurry back to hide behind the ballistas. Once they take out the mutant, switch them to target nearest so they splatter the nearby zombies that follow the mutant in and pile up quickly. (You may need to set one to target powerful if any venom show up)

The beauty of this strategy is you don't need much to make it work. No iron, not many rangers, it's easy to do pretty early in the game. I'll try it on an 80 day game next but I'm pretty confident it'll work.

Only thing I'm not sure of is how effective this will be on Desolate Wasteland. The mutant may just drag too many zombies for ballistas to handle... I will have to try that out.

if you have at least 6 balistas it might work on 900%... but you still need some wood towers to make the mutant attack. they got AOE damage.
the safest way is to have 3 balistas and 50 snipers.
but pro players can do it with only 3 balistas and a kite.

50 snipers is certainly safer, but that's 250 upkeep, 15,000 gold, and 100 iron. Most players get whacked by a mutant before they can come up with that. Or at least that's my experience.

And pro players, yeah, they can wipe out a thousand strong horde with three rangers and a dozen stakes. I'm not trying to compete with them!

snipers are generally good as long as they have a protective barrier, like walls. Put some in a tower or just line them up
