Maybe I Am also overbuilding houses and should get snipers from like +700. I also saw he pulls mutant with only 11 snipers and survives LOL. I had one game like 20 snipers and I couldn't even hold with 1-3 balistas. I literally never hold when mutant is pulled, even with more defense than in video LOL...
I try not to got too far, but is hard to tell sometimes. Nevertheless it always pulls so many!
Any "stress"-situations - and snipers die same as rangers - cant stand.
Only tank-units that can faced infected in melee - soldiers and titans (and mutants, but not so effective and too much cost for that).
You want completely skip some units? Skip Lucifers (or use them for campaign Horde missions, or nowhere). Maybe Mutants - they looks bugged for me - they get damage even when no infected can get close enough to them (tine place, AOE damage attack from Mutant)
Also rangers later in the game - probably even get them back to barraks = back to free workers.
Well, or build some defense line and kite mutants\giants\VoD\else high treat to walls+executor+wasps(+maybe tesla tower)(+maybe stakes). With snipers in watch towers.
But they don't work! I read in guides to go snipers at (800%)+ and I saw everyone on youtube going snipers. This isn't problem I think. Problem is I can't take any ground for some reason! But I can give them try once, or twice more...
Yeah Titans are best I think, they have better DPS perhaps and tank more! Move faster...
LOL I didn't know you can get rangers back to barracks later :D
I didn't even get that far. I use mass traps and like 1-2 balistas usually, as 3 make too much noise. But even 1 most of the times too much gets pulled with mutant and than I get completely overwhelmed. Yet guy pulls mutant and almost nothing comes and this happens all the time to me. While it wasn't even that far from base - I don't think!
Sometimes even 1 archer pulls mutant from 10 tiles from command center LOL! Or there was 1 lone zombie, from other side of forest like 3 squares in front of my wall and it pulled whole horde, while I killed it with single archer and no other zombies were around it. So random!
for the campaign, I mean if you want the achieve if you 800% the hordes and hero missions you only need to do maybe 300% on the missions for the 70,000 points achieve I think. sorta testing that now, I'm 200% the campaign mission but shooting the hordes and hero missions up to 800% and I'm CERTAINLY going to get at least 40,000 points.
but if you want to beat a map at max difficulty, early on what KensaiTV tends to do is build ballista and kite mobs into them with his rangers. and he has ...rather insane ranger moving skills. he very rarely loses a ranger. whereas mine get all stupid pathfinding and whatnot and get themselves killed. anyways he clears early with the ballista. then makes a sniper army with Titans. and defends
early waves he kites pretty easily on some stakes traps with his ranger.
the random survival maps are kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though. like sometimes they got good points to defend and sometimes they don't and you are really cramped.
You need to stop playing at 800%. Go to an easier difficulty and learn how to expand properly. Expanding isn't *that* hard.
In fact, your problem may be trying to expand with too many rather than too few rangers. Try expanding with just your starting four rangers to get the feel with it. Keep your soldier hanging out by your tents in case the rangers have to run away. You shouldn't be provoking a stream of zombies, you don't even run into runners until 20 squares away.
And don't forget stakes. Stakes are great for taking down walkers and runners, while your rangers mop up everything else. By day 10 you should have lots and lots of stakes.
Maybe they have a niche role of taking out chubbies if you have a VoD nearby an initial settlement?
For campaign most useful train delivery is last one - free wasps. They do not require workshop building. Same as free balista.
I don't think ballista is important. Shock tower stakes (not sure about mines) and wasps.
And best defend and attack solution - soldiers. Bunch of them - just press (C)chase
