Question: HOUSING
It has been a pain for me to find the perfect housing layout, where to start measuring out a big housing area. I generally aim for maps that i can build a very large economy (normally in big large open spaces) but I have trouble with finding the right dimensions and such to build around a market and bank effectively. Any tips or your own building schemes that could help me out in creating a solid economy? Maybe descrive your dimensions like a 5x2 tent area parallel to you command center or something, anyways thanks!

Keep them close as possible to your Command Center.. cuz if housing gets overrun, you've lost anyways. At least that's what I have experienced. Also pre-plan 3x3 spaces for those banks and markets in the center of your housing 'districts' to ensure the fullest payout from the Market and Bank.

The only two things you need to envelope is a 3x3 market and a 3x3 bank. They will need 1 space between them and the nearest structure, so you need a 9x5 grid to put both.

1+3+1+3+1 and 1+3+1

Put this in an area where you can build a houses on all sides, so not hugging a mountain or coast. Put these in the center of a big area of unfarmable land.

Try to stick with as low tier of housing as possible until you have no room and need to upgrade. This is until you have both the market and bank up, in which case upgrade everything in the AOE.

Housing can be build in two rows touching each other which generally makes for the easist base planning. But don't have long continuous rows or it will severely restrict army movement.

I'm not the best at maximizing econ, but I've beaten all 4 maps with that general strategy. Some people here are able to turn the game into Sim City and print money, but it depends on alot of factors especially tileset.

You will need at least 1.5-2 fully upgraded housing clusters to generate the income needed to beat the final wave. If you can get 3, then fantastic, but again, depends on your map. I've never gotten 3 on map 4 because of how little food there is.

You can only build 3 markets but infinite banks. Banks are really expensive so you usually won't have more banks than markets. Markets cut food cost massively.

Warehouses are also incredibly useful and those take up ALOT of space. I think 6x6. It can be difficult to fit one at your spawn since you are usually using it for housing, but when expanding, always think about where to put the warehouse. Build as many warehouses as possible once you have the resources. It's not an early-game thing.

And the AOE's don't stack. I heard they once did, but not anymore.

If you get 3 (very easy on the second map cuz of lots of room), you're rolling in so much gold that you don't know what to do with it... the map's cleared, everything's upgraded. Hmm.... WTB> endless mode where it's like sim city and you're trying to keep your citizens happy? =D

Its easy to get three clusters on map 2, and two clusters on map 1 and 3. It can be a chore to get even one cluster on map 4 since you will need to expand greatly to have the farmland to support it. Map 4 is a troll-y map. It oscillates between very satisfying and anger inducing. The main difference with the maps is the rate of expansion and how you go about defense. Map 2 in particular has so few chokepoints that you need to rely on overwhelming economy to bring overwhelming firepower.

Combined market+bank give +30% gold -30%food need for all houses.

Here is what i came up with :

You can fit 100houses on a 22*25 square, light green is the zone where you benefit from both bonuses ( market and bank )

One thing I've found that helps a LOT with housing is to wall off separate housing blocks as I progress forward. I've had multiple instances of containment breaches that I survived thanks to having walls to keep the infected from houses trapped *in* an area where I could pick them off, rather than having the domino chain go all the way to my command center immediately.
